MiSide Game (Spec) Review: on macOS, Intel Mac and Ultrawide (21:9)

Specs:

  • CPU: i7 6820HQ
  • GPU: Radeon Pro 455 2GB GDDR5 (equivalent to GTX 750TI - GTX660)
  • RAM: 16GB LPDDR3

Environment:

  • System: macOS 12.0 - Monterey
  • Monitor: Ultrawide (21:9)
  • Software: CrossOver (version 24.0) | bought/full version
  • Storage: NVME SSD (CrossOver) and External SSD (MiSide)

Experience: MiSide runs very solidly on my setup. With a widescreen (21:9), it achieves an average of 30-35 FPS at 2560x1080P. However, I recommend playing at 2048x858 for optimal performance.

Resolution Options:

  • 3440x1440 - 1440p
  • 2560x1080 - 1080p
  • 2048x858 - 858p
  • 1920x804 - 804p
  • 1720x720 - 720p

At 858p, the game runs smoothly with 40-60 FPS (45-50 on average) with anti-aliasing (1/3), shadows (1/3), and all graphic effects activated (smooth shadows, color effects, etc.).

You can truly feel how optimized this game is and the love put into it. If I were to set up a Windows 10 or 11 Bootcamp, I could probably play it at 45-55 FPS on average at 2560x1080.

Ultrawide screens (21:9) require 30% more performance, meaning 2560x1080 at 60 FPS would need 30% more GPU performance than 1920x1080. It looks beautiful on ultrawide, and I'm so happy that the developers added instant support for it. This shows how much love they put into "MiSide."

I'm talking about the full version on Steam, but a standalone version here on itch.io or on an official website would be much better. I hope a standalone version might happen.

For everyone with a Mac, that has at least an Radeon Pro 455: the performance is between solid - good and the graphics are very nice, which means, weaker hardware should also be able to render the game perfectly

Total Score (for the game itself): 84/100
