the author did write somewhere that this ending was the most difficult to put together. i got the sense that he finds it contrived, as opposed to the three shorter ones which came out naturally, i presume.
about the scars and missing teeth, maybe it would be ugly to show them, plus we can assume the girls fixed the more conspicuous injuries like the teeth.
