Thank you for reporting this! It seems like one of the game's plugins was not functioning properly, but this might just be an issue with your copy. I couldn't replicate this problem in version 1.5.1 until I specifically disabled said plugin, through RPG Maker.
Version 1.5.2 should fix your specific issue, but you may not be able to copy your saves over. Let me know if you run into anything else!
