Whenever I close the game, my save files are gone and it doesn't allow me to reload them, is this a known bug or a me thing? Please I have played chapter 1 4 times. (good game though, having a great time with it)
Have you unzipped the game from the zip file? If not, you need to copy it to a folder on your computer. This is the most likely cause.
