Really great job! Seriously, against the odds you churned out a pretty good game that's functional! Again like others have said, it's a shame about your teammates because this game seems like it had a lot of potential!

Not gonna lie. You did well considering no one on your team really did anything so good on you for that! The stick people were decent and animated well.

Im sure if you actually had the time and team that you would have made it function a bit better, added some sound and better controls but well done for what you got done tbh!!

Thanks Kaputtea.

Major props to you for making the game despite an uncooperative team :) I would have loved to have seen what it would've been like had everyone cooperated since it's such a good start with pretty good animations! Well done! :D

Developer

Thank you Vic.

Respect to you for submitting regardless of the unfinished state of your game. Some interesting systems were definitely planned, having a fairly complex fighting system and animations attached to them. It is evident that you had thought of something fairly unique and unfortunately it didn't go as planned.

I won't talk about what was actually submitted as I don't really have much to go on. But from what I can extrapolate based on what was there, I would feel like your designed game may have been a bit out of scope even if you had your whole team cooperating. One stage and simple visuals would have been sufficient for a game with the complexity you were planning. I plan to talk about groups and communication at the lecture on Monday, so definitely turn up (even though you should regardless ;))

Thank you Charlie, it is a difficult one to plan for time wise when you don't actually have the ability to perform the task, when you're in need of learning as you go along, though that's not really an excuse, since I didn't have the ability I should've lowered the bar a little bit, that could have also had something to do with the rest of my team not contributing, i don't know.

I'll be there, don't worry.

This is a really good start, you've clearly got a good grasp on the mechanics of a fighting game. The animations are smooth and responsive, I would have really loved to have seen where this would go given more time/people. Good for you for having something to submit anyway!

(P.S.  for my fellow laptop users, you can use the windows On Screen Keyboard to use the numpad keys to start the game)

Thanks Kian, I appreciate the compliments, i do think the animations could've been taken a bit further, it'd be a lot smother had I added more frames.

Ah, that's something I'll have to take into account in future if I use numpad, thank you for pointing that out.

While I'm aware that this game has been uploaded unfinished, I'm stuck on selecting a character for the second player. I've tried pressing just about everything on my keyboard, but I've been unable to find out how to do it.

Can you please tell me how? I'd love to still play your game.

Developer

Unfortunately it seems on itch io you can bypass the game page completely (specifically the description of the page where I included the information) however I also commented below with further information, I apologise for the incomplete state of the game, for simplicity's sake I'll paste it again here:

A clear attempt has been made for this game idea and reasons have been given for why it is unfished which I like how you have stated the unfinished areas for this to inform us before playing, but you were still able to submit something in time and you should still be happy about that, if this was worked on more with team help, I think this game would be great. But a good attempt on the game. Well done!

Developer (1 edit)

Unfortunately, I've had to upload an unfinished game, but there's only so much I can do on my own.

I'm uncertain on how to improve group communication, but the unfinished elements can definitely be improved.

Important details below.

Unfinished elements

1. Diverse and improved (increased amount of frames) sprites

2. Controls screen (ability to change controls, see below for controls)

3. Ability to win

4. Proper and fitting background

5. Stage selection

6. Audio

7. Pause menu

8. Attack effects (Knockdown, knockback, Knockup etc.)
