Intermediate

Please explain why your team qualifies for the category you chose.
I participated in this jam by myself.

I am a hobbyist. I participated in one jam prior to this one back in 2021. I dabble in game design and programming logic enough to have an idea of how to make a game, but I feel I am far from "Advanced." So I put myself in Intermediate.

How does your game relate to the theme?
I've always been a fan of old crummy web browser games, like the ones you would find on addictinggames.com back in the mid 2000's. Most of those games were pretty bad, but every so often you would stumble across one that had a surprising amount of depth, and was actually pretty challenging. I wanted to recreate that feeling with Burger Boy. It's a special kind of charm that can be hard to find nowadays. I tampered with the music I used to make it sound a little worse, and used odd cartoony sound effects I made with my mouth to try and create an almost 'cheesy' atmosphere.

In other words, Burger Boy is charming in the same way your smelly old college apartment was charming. :)

Specify any and all pre-made assets in your submission.
All graphics in game and out of game were created during the jam timeframe by myself.

All programming was done during the jam timeframe by myself.

Music was licensed from weloveindies.com through their Free 10 songs tier of membership. No artist was listed for any of the music I used.
Songs include:
"Trip to Brazil"
"Bada Ba Baa"
"Boulevard Funk"

Sound effects made by myself were created during the jam timeframe by myself.

All other sound effects were generated by sfxr.me, a resource for sound effects linked in the MelonJam Discord. None of these sound effects were generated prior to the jam start date.

The font used in Burger Boy is called Early GameBoy, and was created by Jimmy Campbell. It was downloaded from dafont.com during the jam timeframe.

Feedback?

I would like feedback and will reach out to review it after the jam.

Anything else you would like us to know?
This info is in my game's description, but I will put it here as well.

I was inspired to make this game by my experiences working at an ice cream shop as a teenager. We had an older cash register with buttons to key in the price of each item in the order. After some time, I memorized all the prices and where the number keys were so well that I could type prices in without looking at the register at all. It got to be really fun to just pound away at the keys without thinking. I wanted to recreate that experience as a simple arcade game. While prices would be hard for a new player to learn and memorize, I figured keying in the correct ingredients would make for a similar feel.

Very relaxing game! I do wish the difficulty scaled faster, other than that is was all pretty well polished, nice job!

This game really brings back some nostalgia :) It feels super smooth and also brings you back to the time where  we all obsessed with games like this haha. The fact that you also managed to complete all the graphics and programming and have it run smoothly in 3 days is also super impressive! Great job!!
