This is a really solid adventure. The animated candles (and candle swarm!) were fun. The danger timer and the magical candles that trigger off of it seemed neat going in, but ended up feeling a little more convoluted than they were worth. But still very cool. A simplified version of the candles have become a consumable staple in my campaign.

There's a LOT of great flavor in this adventure. I found it a little too loose, though and struggled running it the first time. It was unclear to me why the PCs would spend any time in the Driftwood Orchard or Outer Precincts. You're supposed to roll a random encounter for every hour they spend there, but it just ended up being one random encounter and then move on.  The Polis is described as towering above the rest of the city. The players never even considered stopping to search one of the other districts.

The second lesson I learned - I wish there had been some guidance about how and when the PCs might interact with the NPCs. Mine never met the Oracle or Peotr (except as the Childe), and would not have met the Corpse Master except I thought to include a showdown with him in the Ziggurat.

But all my complaining aside, there's SO much good, flavorful content here. I've run it twice and am going to run it a third time, but I wish it had been better structured to make my first run as good as my third.

I have run this adventure twice now, with Shadowdark and it's been very enjoyable. The only thing I stumbled with were the Halls of Regret. The rooms are supposed to shift every time someone enters the area, but I feel like that's a neat idea that ends up being underwhelming because when are the PCs going to enter the area more than once? I suppose they go back that way when they leave, but that feels pretty much after-the-fact. The second time I ran the adventure I had the rooms shift every time they left one ... only letting them out once they'd gotten to experience each of the four rooms at least once. That worked a lot better.

Overall great! The Mad Goddess herself has become an important part of my campaign world. One of the PCs swore fealty to her so she made him a Warlock in her service, and now he's recruiting more townsfolk to come help rebuild the cathedral.  Can't wait to see where this goes!

Excellent, Weird, and Offbeat game. Ran it as a one-shot and probably leaned too hard into silliness, but liked it enough that I'm going to run it again at a convention in May.

Definitely NOT a fan of the light text on dark background, and neither is my home printer, and had to completely redo the map for VTT ... but other than that much fun was had. Recommended.

Outstanding gauntlet adventure with an unusual and amusing theme. Ran this as part of my campaign, and still have a player who talks about the time his character was forced to dance.
