- This one could get quite dark but I'm interested in the ways the team behind it have looked to mix the underlying historic context with a recognisable level concept based around a child's experience of peril.
- This part of history is grim and shows what men can do during a war. If the game focuses entirely on the storytelling part and educating players about the brutality of what happened here, it can be perceived as very interesting, and players will emphasize with the main character. However, telling such a dramatic historical piece in a video game is very challenging, and you will face some obstacles, such as the unlikelihood of replaying the game. Would love to experience the first version of the game once you have it done.
- This concept made me think about it throughout the weeklong, coming up with different ways of implementation, recalling similar movies and games. I find a usage of a childish perception of the world, which adapts any events of life to the fairy-talish plot, turning it step by step into reality produces me goosebumps, I find it very original. The concept document managed to deliver it to me in a proper way, I’d be happy to try it out once implemented for sure.
Which object does your game link to? Please explain the connection.
Retrouvailles is a game about a child’s journey for reunion with his family, waging through the atrocities of one of the most horrifying events during the second World War.
The game is linked to the Cyril McCann Model- The model talks about how the war reaches far beyond the battlegrounds, affecting lives of civilians at various levels. Our game follows in the context of the massacre of Oradour-sur-Glane, a real life conflict that took place during the second World War. Our protagonist is Mathis, a 6 year old child, who makes his way back home from school through scenes of increasing German invasion of his village. We tie up the object to our game by showing how a village began their day normally, only for it to be burnt by day end.
