Nice fantasy console)
First of all, I love how you brought the lospec jam rules into the tool jam. Great cross-submitting
I haven’t actually taken the time to use it to create a game, I’ve just read through the doc.
What I love most is the controller. It lets you make mobile-compatible games, which is really cool. And also, it gives a constraint by forcing devs to use a precise set of inputs, and that’s cool too.
When I see your list of todos, I think you need to keep in mind that your fantasy console is only one among many others. You need to make it an original and unique development environment rather than trying to cover every use case.
In my opinion, the biggest flaw at the moment is the difficulty of setting it up. You’d have to be able to download the example cartridge from the console, modify it on your computer and insert it back into the console (for example, by drag and dropping the .js file directly into the console), it would really encourage users to learn and start developing a game. Having to install node to use OWLS16 might seems simple but is far too complicated for the average user.
Once that’s fixed, fix the 2-3 button-related bugs (especially on mobile) and you’ll already have a tool that I find really exciting and that could find its place in the world of fantasy consoles.
Can’t wait to see how it evolves !
