  • Hi Dan! Well done for submitting in time, you can tell that you put a lot of passion and effort into you FMP/Grads submission :) I really enjoyed looking at the project. You have almost nailed the art style you were going for, which can be a very challenging thing to do, so well done! The strongest and also weakest point in my opinion is the textures. It was great seeing you utilise different techniques to texture such as the trim sheet, tiling textures and baked textures! You seem to have a great grasp on how to go about creating these. However, there didn't seem to be any regard taken for texel density especially when changing around the map sizes as it needs to be mostly consistent across assets in an environment. For example, the barrels, walls and bar seem to all vary in texture detail, causing the bar front to appear almost blurry compared to each other. This variance isn't helped when scaling objects inside of unreal, as the more something is scaled up the more blurry it will appear. Notably, there are also a couple assets which seem to have broken textures such as the planks seen on slide 134. It's small things like these which when fixed would bring the environment up to the next level! Well done for scaling back on the size/composition, it was a challenge you overcame by testing things out in Unreal. This somewhat stresses the importance of testing things out early on to avoid having to scale things etc after doing the UVs/textures. The research and development were amazing. Seeing how many references you had was great, but I would have liked to see them a bit more condensed in the final presentation- having 153 slides is overwhelming aim for max 50 including screenshots! Overall, Dan you have achieved a really nice scene! Great atmosphere and strong sense of character. You've matched the art style on a lot of your assets and have utilised some great pipeline techniques. For next time, try spending some more time on making the presentation clear and condensed. I care more about your own thoughts, how you tackled challenges and your pipeline over seeing 25 slides dedicated to just pureref! TLDR: - Good for scaling back - Loved the attempts of recreating the art style - Nice use of texturing techniques - Texel density issues - Nice decals - Shaders are a nice touch but appear odd on some areas such as leaves - Strong atmosphere - Presentation too long! - Test bits in unreal more - Difficult to see modelling process
