  • Really love the look and sound of this game. Brings back a lot of Crash Bandicoot memories! I also like the Adventure Time-esque character models.

You never get a great sense how you're supposed to work together. I wanted to understand the goals a lot better.

The platforming/jumping doesn't feel all that responsive, feel like with a platformer it's gotta be really tight or you're just going to frustrate the player.

  • Interesting concept and decent fundamentals. I'm not sure why it needed to be 2-player nor necessarily how it fits the theme of the jam. Still, I enjoyed running around collecting coins and the level layout was decent. I found it really jarring that the character only jumped when you RELEASED the jump button rather than when you pressed it. It made the whole experience feel a bit sluggish. I think that if the game had tighter controls and snappier animations with some cool sound effects you could have something akin to classic Banjo Kazooie on your hands! Solid work!

Title of Game: Keeping Up With the Joneses

Summary: Brothers Templeton and Rizzo Jones follow in the treasure-hunting footsteps of their great grandfather (Indiana Jones) as they explore the American't Islands to find the long lost Fortune of Promesas Falsas*.

Keeping Up With The Joneses is a commentary on how children will blindly follow the tracks of their parents, particularly in materialistic pursuits. The cycle of obtaining money, spending money, and working harder to get more money and then spending more money is passed on from generation to generation and has become such an ingrained habit that nobody realizes that they are stuck in the Rat Race both figuratively and literally*. In terms of the theme... kids naturally will model their lives after that of their parents. If the parents exhibit poor financial habits, naturally the kids will follow no matter how well-intentioned the parents are. Keeping up with the Joneses indeed in a race to the a (financial) Temple of Doom

*Spanish for False Promises

**Inside Scoop:

-Templeton and Rizzound are names of two infamous Hollywood rats.

-Templeton is from Charlotte's Web

-Rizzo is the rat from the Muppets. Also, "Rizzound" is a play on words referring to "Short Round" from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

-American't Islands = opposite of the United States of America (see what I did there???)
