your heart pounds as your footsteps echo up the walls, desperate in their vertical attempt to escape the midnight city. it's... the sunrise, but it's only an hour past midnight. what is happening?
a clock tower chimes in the distance. one ring, then more. you try hopelessly to count the chimes. one, two, three... you try to focus your eyes on the awnings, the street signs, anything that can ground you. but there is nothing. your brain can't make sense of the strange glyphs smattered across the city you thought you knew.
the clock stubbornly chimes. eleven, twelve, thirteen times.
