I've liked pretty much all the characters and scenarios, Its a very round experience overall.
I've seen a lot of love for PROXIMATE and all it accomplishes, and after playing it I can see it's certainly well-deserved. That game is innovative, even within a sphere like indie body horror which has been host to some wild games in the past few years. But dammit, this game is my momentary Roman Empire.
Waste Eater does what every indie game, student film, and short story desperately aspires to, and funnels a thought-provoking concept down to a single poignant moment. The dust-wind rising as the tank runs low. Terrible truths about the state of the world mentioned offhandedly. A simple but unapologetic sucker-punch of a 'twist'. I suppose there is a lot of direct exposition for the game's runtime, but when the writing is so effective that you're catching yourself mouthing your character's pithy lines before they even say them, it hardly matters.
A simple, efficient midnight find that grabbed both lungs and twisted. Waste Eater's a real gem.
