  • Interesting interpretation of the themes. The game itself seems a little simple, although admittedly a little addictive. Initially I was confused as to which "NPCs" are holding coffee or not, maybe there could be something else, another indicator perhaps? The UI was a little over-simplistic. It is also a crime that the bat is call Gregg and there is no reference to sausage rolls. Overall a good effort though, I like the different kinds of coffee were all different buffs too.

Tell us about your game!
In Espresso Escapades you play as a bat named Gregg. You work your way through days of increasing difficulty, collecting coffees in order to keep Gregg awake. To do this, you use sonar, and a mix of coffee brews in order to aid you on your journey. Collect achievements and help Gregg stay awake as you adventure on in Espresso Escapades!

Extra Notes
Thank you for trying the game, I really appreciate it! My first Jam so go easy on me for...well...everything.

Man I get Gregg (I too am chronically addicted to coffee). I thought the game was a really good start, gives me solid mobile game vibes; I can see myself playing a single day or two in game as I’m waiting for a train or something, because the gameplay is simple and a session is really short. It also reminds me a lot of rhythm games, and I think the game would be 10 times better if you had more feedback when you grab a coffee (a sound and some sort of energy), and some sort of indicator that the bottom of the screen is a cafe, because it looks like people (myself included to begin with) didn’t quite get it at first. Overall, a fun little game, especially for your first; hope this encourages you to keep making more :).

Thank you very much!  Sound design is definitely on the table for future updates of the game. With added tutorials etc since, I hope that I've addressed some of the issues people were having in terms of initial accessibility.  I definitely get what you mean though and it is something I'm actively trying to find a "neat" solution to, perhaps a "playable" tutorial level may help for Day 1, in order to get to grips without reading everything, and actually seeing the game in action.

Thanks once more for your kind words, I cannot put into words how much it helps my motivation!

It is pretty difficult to execute the timing, and also I have a really hard time figure out what the right timing is supposed to be in the first place... There seems to be a lot of depth in this, I wish it were easier/had better feedback

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Would you feel that having less of a delay in the timing of the "pings" of the sonar would help in terms of initial processing of what's going on etc.?  Was intended as a simple but difficult to execute but I think I may have gone a little to high with the starter curve.

Well a lot of not knowing what to do stems from how the pings just disappear and reappear, I'm not sure if there's a better way to do that, maybe fade in and out instead of blink in and out...? Maybe that would work better than less delay, you'd have to lab it really.

I can not figure out what to do in the game. I think having some kind of tutorial would help this game alot.

Hey, I've just implemented a couple of bug fixes and updates - as well as adding a little more information to the tutorial, which is replayable from the main menu.  If you feel like giving the game further time please feel free to review again and let me know if further clarification is required.  Thank you for your invaluable feedback, it is much appreciated!

I could not figure this one out. As soon as I press spacebar it’s gameover, no matter where the green sound waves are.
