  • Cool topic, but also a super ambitious project. Most of the features planned in the GDD are not playable yet, but follow a great idea. Unfortunately the theme of shadows has only been implemented as a funny addition for the incompatability message. The art only serves the differentiation of the Atoms, therefore being purely functional and less expressive. Great concept, that could be great with lots of time spent and some limitations.
  • The game works, but is a little simplistic. It doesn't really fit with the themes. The shadow government is an interesting implementation of the theme, but the game would be the same with just a simple popup. And it does not really follow alchemy theme, since we already know what the outcome will be, alchemy is about the mystery! Nice to have the entire periodic table covered, but it would be interesting to continue to add neutrons until the atom becomes too unstable or decays, or even have half-lives in there that govern when the nucleus splits. Simplistic, clean artistic style. It would be nice if there were effects or similar upon combinations of atoms with nucleons. You have some really nice ideas in the game design document, but I would say that implementing substitutional pathways, such as the synthesis of copper nitrate is extremely ambitious.

Tell us about your game!
The game revolves around merging subatomic particles, with each other and with atoms. The first step is to spawn a proton (click the proton button, located on the panel on the right side of the screen) once it has spawned, move it off to the side. Then spawn an electron using the same panel. Drag (click and hold left mouse button over it while moving the mouse) the electron on top of the proton and it will create a hydrogen atom. Spawn another proton and drag it onto the hydrogen. Drag the missing particles listed on the undiscovered atom to discover it. Repeat that process until you discover all the atoms! Use the help button on the bottom left of the screen if you get stuck. Its programmed to figure out where in the game you are, and suggest what to do next.

Extra Notes
Make sure to try merging particles that cant merge (eg. neutron and electron), and make sure to click the help button even if you aren't stuck. Those two mechanics are how I implemented the shadow part of the theme. To be able to go back and view all the help screens, you can open the menu in the top left corner to reset the game to the beginning. The credits can also be viewed there.

Also, I was a bit confused on the submitting the GDD part, I believe I did it right, its in the downloads section and links to the google doc which is set to be publicly accessible.

Very nice! When i first time saw "These items can't be merged" from shadow government when I tried to combine two hydrogen atom together, I thought they try to convince me not to make hydrogen bomb!

P.S. I noticed your game even before voting started)
