  • The playability was enjoyable, especially with the map changing after each death, though I did encounter a few repeated layouts. The shadow aspect of the theme was spot on, but the alchemy portion felt a bit underwhelming. The cleverness of the game was well-executed and blended seamlessly with the artistic style. The all-black aesthetic added a nice challenge to the gameplay!

Extra Notes
Cave of Alchemy is a roguelike platformer. In this game you play as a shadow and fight other shadows! You will have to face off against soldiers with bazookas, foot soldiers and little turtles! In addition to regular enemies, bosses await you! To become stronger, brew potions at the end of the level. The game has great replay value! Go deeper into the cave and have fun!

Resolution was a bit weird in the browser, but otherwise game was working. Art style reminds me of Limbo, which looks very nice.

Gameplay wise it was nice and simple. I did accidently glance at the colour combos on the info page so that got spoiled, but the mechanic itself is cool.

I will say that I feel like the main shooting attack should probably disappear once it hits an enemy in order to give it a bit more impact, since it felt like there was no real feedback when shooting enemies as it went right through them. This depends however if you intent on being able to get collateral hits between multiple enemies.

Great submission overall though!

I liked the background and character art, but I couldn't get very far.
