  • My review is based on what I've read from your GDD, the images you've provided and the bit of time I spent playing. I like the concept you presented (GDD), but the incorporation of the themes didn't really come across to me even with what you described them as, besides the abyss below for shadow. I honestly struggled playing due to the controls with the camera being 'loose', so getting proper angles down when platforming presented more of a challenge than I expected to experience. Overall, I think what you were able to present was executed well, besides my little gripe with camera controls, and would want to see more of what you can come up with. All the same, keep up the hard work.
  • Platforming was just challenging enough to make it frustrating, so that was good. no sounds at all made the game so barren. a soime placeholder sounds for walking, jumping or maybe falling would have been nice to make it more "alive".

Did you include your Game Design Document as a Google Drive link?
Yes

Seriously... did you include your Game Design Document?
Yes! I attached a Google Doc file to the project page.

Is your game set to Public so we can see it?
Yes!

Tell us about your game!
Walk, Jump, Shoot, and Solve easy puzzles! Use different types of projectiles to interact with the world. And beware of Abyss, stranger!

Extra Notes
I lost my team halfway through and decided to give this project a chance from scratch by using an engine I know. Unreal Engine. I know… I know….. It was not easy for me to make this thing work with the browser but here we go! I have a playable prototype developed in UE for a browser (HTML5)!

Project has been developed with only default UE assets from the first person template map (because UE builds are really (REALLY) heavy for Itch.Io) and honestly I simply wouldn't have enough time for creating any assets including music and sounds.

Almost everything is made by a 1x1 cube. Give it a try! :)

I would love to speedrun this. Sorry your team fell through, but this is great little puzzle platformer concept. Hope you keep up the good work!

Awesome atmosphere, environment art and level design! How did you get the lighting so good in html5 from Unreal? I used Unreal 4.23 for my jam game but I couldn't get any dynamic light or fog to export. people seem to be able to export dynamic light and fog to html5 from godot and unity, maybe Unreal is not the best choice for html5?

Oh, hello there!

First of all, thank you so much for your comment!

The biggest issue I had during the development was lighting. If you use default scenes like “first person template” and “ship” this level as a HTML5 game all will be good and fine. BUT, if you touch the default lighting setting or your level goes bigger there you can get some problems after exporting your game. I had to export and reupload the game about 40 times trying different lighting settings. And the best solution I found is to use Point Lights to light up my scene, because Sunlight did not work properly for some reason.

I can recommend using UE4.22 for HTML5 games only if :

1) you have some knowledge about Lighting setup (I definitely will create a test level with rooms and point lights for a science)

2) your game included really “light” assets, because UE build is heavy and barely fit in Itch.io.

P.S. There are probably some export settings and limitations for HTML5 that I don't know about, this was my first time making a game for a browser.
