What‘s Next? 5 Introduction Basic Idea Idle game: spread butter on bread by clicking the giant piece of bread in the foreground grow your capital Use that capital to buy upgrades to spread more butter on bread Inspirations Videogame „Cookie Clicker“/ Genre of „Idle Games“ ”Breadwinners”´s artstyle -> pixelated bread sprites Source: https://thumbnails.cbsig.net/CBS_Production_Entertainment_VMS/2020/11/04/1815305795695/NICKELODEON_BREADWINNERS_109_V1_355251_1920x1080.jpg Platforms The game is supposed to be developed for all mainstream platforms including PC and mobile devices. Development Software The game engine „Godot“ was used for the coding and UI „Libresprite“ was used for the graphics elements (for example bread sprites). Genre Idle, Casual, Tycoon Target Audience The game is meant for the casual player who just wants to pass some time. Concept Gameplay overview Upon launching the game, you will be met with a starting menu. Once you load into the main screen, you start clicking on the giant piece of bread in the foreground to make money. You can use that money to buy upgrades to exponentially grow your capital and unlock more content. Theme Interpretation (It‘s Spreading) The purpose of the game is to spread butter, quite literally. Also, your cashflow will also start spreading as you gain more and more money to buy upgrades. It‘s all spreading. Important Game Mechanics Click on the giant piece of bread in the foreground to spread butter on it and make money „Gamble“-Button: Either you randomly win or lose money upon pressing it Increment („INC“): Increases gained money on each spread bread Clicks per Second („CPS“): Employs people to automatically spread butter and generate passive income -> buy upgrades to exponentially gain more money for each piece of bread Art Design The art is characterized by a pixelart style, hence why Libresprite was used in this project. The colour palette is bright and simple with a clear blue backdrop and the brown-shaded piece of bread in the foreground. The buttons at the side are yet either a darker shade of blue or are wooden-coloured to separate them visually from everything else. UI The UI is kept fairly simple with only the most important menu and gameplay buttons. They take up only little of the screenspace while the piece of bread is the most dominant visual element. Also, the values of the upgrades are being kept updated even after exiting the game and starting it after. That is, unless you reset the values to start anew. Sounds Upon clicking on the bread, there‘s a simple feedback sound. For the buttons, there‘s a sound resembling coins and when the gamble button is pressed, a jingle tells you whether you were successful or not. Development Timeline 12.1.24 - 27.1.24: Making the game What‘s Next? Possible implementation of other bread types (whole grain, croissants etc.) overall polishing (graphics, optimization) Probably publishing on Steam whether this game wins the game jam or not (just for the sake of experience) participation in future game jams(?) Thanks for testing the game! Any suggestions on what we could do better?
