Description
Game, Adventure, Point-and-click. Composed in MuseScore. This is my first time doing a jam so I chose something 'quick and simple': Juxtaposing instruments (tinkling bells vs. bombastic brass for the 'Two Worlds' theme), made a repeating harmony and added the melody on top.

Artist comment:
Tinkling bells and bombastic brass come together to make this grand yet goofy tune perfect for a wizard's library in one of the old school point-and-click adventure games.

Theme:

Two Worlds

How does it fit the theme?
You have entered a place where you do not belong - this is an entirely different world from the one you know.

Thanks for sharing your score as a pdf, that's a cool thing to do! :) I like your structure, alternating between pure bell parts and parts where the other instruments kick in is a nice touch.

A few ideas that I think might improve your composition:

- The quality of the MuseScore standard instruments is not very good, which makes sense since it's meant to be a composition and not a music production software. However, an easy way to improve that sound is by installing sound fonts, which make the playback instantly quite a bit more realistic.

- There's a lot of other stuff in music besides the notes themselves. I think your score would benefit a lot from adding some dynamics and articulation (though I know they're a pain to notate, but they do help). Also, your rhythms right now are very basic and adding some rhythmic variety might help a lot.

- Lastly since your interpretation of the theme explicitely focuses on the different instruments, I think it would make sense to always think about what are fitting parts for the instruments and not just write any melody for any instrument. For example, brass instruments often like either playing fanfares or some sort of jazzy stuff. Hand bells really live from harmonies and could probably use more than two parts. Basically, always think about the instrument you're writing for.

Anyway, congratulations on your first submission! Hope you had a blast composing this and you should definitely be proud of yourself!

You've captured the sound of classic point and clicks, which is a hard thing to nail down. The track has a lot of fun character and I think would fit into a game really, really well. This was a really fun listen!

The sounds chosen in the twinkling parts remind me of Secret of Evermore kinda!

This had a cool feel to it, reminded me of Coral Town in Final Fantasy 7. Great work!

Thank you! Glad to hear it reminded you of FFVII because that was the era I was going for.

These instruments have a classic SNES vibe! Reminds me of Secret of Mana. I think you could gain a lot by playing with dynamics a bit. Those horns seem a bit in your face at times. Also bring out your melodies a bit more. You have some good ideas there!

Thanks - I agree with everything you said! I haven't used MuseScore in years, so I admit to just 'mucking about' and re-familiarising myself with the software on this occasion. Hopefully I'll be back up to speed for the next OST jam!
