Description
The file is a collection of three musical sections, and a final failure state sound. Each section (barring the failure state) is loopable, with variation added by a glitching beat repeat effect. It is imagined as a side-scrolling adventure game, with elements where the world is completely together, as well as moments where everything seems to be falling apart.

The first piece is the main hub theme, establishing the sonic world that is being entered. The second piece is a minor boss theme, with each section loopable then able to move on when another part of the fight is occuring. The third piece is when the big boss has broken through to the more together world and is trying to break it apart, with each section moving on as different stages of the boss battle occurs.

Everything was created within Ableton, with a blend of live recordings of a toy piano and voice and digital instruments/effect.

Theme:

Two Worlds
Picture theme

How does it fit the theme?
The "two worlds" are represented by the "together" world, as shown by the more realistic instrumentation, fighting against the "broken" world, as shown by the glitched instrumentation. The picture theme is represented by the glitching, with the glitches being the bridge between the two in-world games.

Love this representation of the theme, love the glitched sound and the Link to the Past soundfont use (I think thats what it is)

Thank you! I'm trying to remember now as well, I've wiped my hard drive twice since then and my hard drive with it on is at home, but I believe the one I used for the strings was from Donkey Kong Country, which has a similar thing going for it occasionally! C700 is one of my favourite VSTs, absolutely.

The toy piano is a really nice touch : it gives a sense of reality and fragility.

Thank you, it was £20 from a recycling shop, I'll see if I can sample it at some point, but right now it's purely me playing the thing terribly!

Yet another argument saying that expensive tools aren't necessary to make great music

Jeez these broken instruments and rhythms are a torture to listen to.  Definitely achieved the purpose, but for the sake of playability I would I would moderate it a bit.

Absolutely a case of "push it to the edge for brevity" rather than any kind of control, I agree (and have only just found out that there were any more comments on this, sorry for the bump)!

the middle section sounds a bit too wonky (for me) but the rest is pretty solid

That's fun as the only bit I enjoy is the middle section! I didn't have anywhere near as much time to finish it all off as I was expecting (it was more like a two hour game jam for me), so the rest was rushed, the middle section is the only bit that came out how I intended. Different strokes!
