Description
The Catching Horizon soundtrack is an electronic based soundtrack with piano being the focal instrument. It varies from eerie ambiance to a driving emotional score. There are three tracks to this game; Her Cage, Catching Horizon, and Nightingale.
I envisioned the game for this would be in the same vein as GRIS or Flower; very artistic, simple gameplay, and a subtle narrative. The game for Catching Horizon would be quite short; Her Cage is the beginning of the game, where the character is trapped in a literal and metaphorical cage. It is uneasy, with reversed sounds and eerie drones. The title track Catching Horizon is the journey of her breaking free and liberating herself. The main motif comes in full swing with a driving beat and rich synth strings. Finally, Nightingale is an epilogue of sorts, that give a soft blend of hope and unease as the character begins a new chapter of their life.
Catching Horizon was produced in Pro Tools with a variety of instrument libraries. Piano was the connective through-line instrument for the soundtrack. To represent the character's turmoil and anxiety, sounds were reversed, used eerie instruments like the glass armonica, or ran motifs through the Reaktor user plug-in Existen II.

Theme:

Runaway

How does it fit the theme?
For this theme "Runaway", I wanted to lean towards a more emotional meaning rather than a physical escape. Catching Horizon is a story of someone who was trapped in a "cage"; an environment that was toxic and only brought them distress. Then, she finds the courage to break free of her cage and "runaway" to a newfound freedom. The last track represents an epilogue; even though she's in a strange new world, there is hope for a better future.

Such captivating pieces, very ethereal vibe. Nightinggale is especially beautiful. Amazing stuff. Thanks for sharing!

I like the mix of styles in this one. Nice use of a waterphone in the first track. Always instant horror/fright. I also really like the middle of Catching Horizon. Nice beat and syncopation with the piano. Excellent work!

Thanks! It actually isn't a waterphone; it's a Reaktor user plugin called eXisten II;  definitely worth checking out if you're into unique soundscapes.

Cool. It just really reminded me of a waterphone. I tried googling it but couldn't find it. Do you have a link?

First, the DarkMaestro logo/avatar that you have on the Soundcloud page is amazing. For the tracks, "Her Cage" set the creepy scene well, followed by the jarring 'banging on the cage door' sounds in "Catching Horizon" which led to a release and transportation - the electronics and life that they suggest, and the optimism that comes with it, are brilliant. "Nightingale" is a nice closer. Fantastic work.

Haha thanks, I'm glad my artistry paid off.  And thank you for appreciating the soundtrack! Yours was great too!

Very cool soundtrack, I love the narrative you came up with, really deep. My favorite track is"Her Cage", it says so much with so little. Good Job!

Thought it was gonna be ambience throughout, instead I really liked the mix of styles. The ambience in the first track was on-point, and the third track was beautiful!

love the dark ambience!
