What did this game do well?

****************************

Jelly. Jelly go woooop. Jelly go sproooing. Jelly go double jump.

Okay, seriously, it feels like I'm playing with Heavy Jello Kirby. I am having way more fun with this than I feel like I can justify to myself so I'm just going to stop playing now.

The jump jelly could move really fast. Combined with the motion trail it provides a great game control experience. Various sound effects. I also like the minimalist theme.

This game is really cohesive with its visuals and effects -- nothing feels out of place and the choices made for the jelly bounce and the sound effects are really well done! Also would like to point out that the screenshake is strong enough to be noticed but subtle enough to keep things stable -- not easy to do!

I really like the slime effect

I like how each effect is designed with details makes a lot of sense. For the dust, it's not every time the jelly jumps that would produce the dust, but only when it jumps from the air, so to mimic the air particles being pushed away by the jumping impact. And the screen shake only happens when the jelly drops from a high enough altitude. The motion trail is also very smooth and satisfying to look at. I can tell that you put in a lot of thought into crafting these effects to really make the game juicy and come alive.

I personally really like the jelly effects with the sounds, very boing boing and it definitely makes me want to play this game.

Simple but effective effects. Cute smiley face and the sound effects are satisfying. Despite the black and white aesthetic it feels emotive.

The game character looks very happy a smile and eyes. The game feel effects with trail, dust and squish on drop really shows the character is a jelly. The movement is smooth and not hard to control. The game play is easy to learn and follow. The dust effect to show double jump is well execute. Overall I really like the game.

I liked how the game felt themed, and the effects didn't take away from the experience. The shake was a good enhancement to the movement.

I think that this prototype did a really good job of matching the sound effects to the actions done in the game. I also think that every effect matched the character pretty well (even though it was a very basic model).

What could this game have done better?

****************************

Aside from the Jelly and the sound effects, this game is extremely, *extremely* Spartan. There's a difference between minimalist and just empty. Part of game feel is building an environment that helps immerse the player, and for all it's jellylicious charm this game doesn't do that.

The jelly effect looks a little bit weird -- a jelly won't simply expand when landing

I think adding a background track could take this up to a new level, as the bouncing and dust sounds feel lonely by themselves. Also echoing feedback from class, having the jelly deform on the double jump would also give that extra jelly feeling.

Not something wrong, but more of a what i'd like to see. When the slime jumps and falls a certain distance it turns red and has a frowning face.

In my opinion, I think the sound effect for the double jump is a bit too harsh, especially compared to the jelly sound effect. The maracas sound effects also doesn't feel like a jelly-esque effect. Perhaps finding a more boing sound or a sound more fitting for a jelly will make it more cohesive.

Another idea to add on to the particles or dust effect is perhaps to also make the jelly eject some particles when it collides with a platform.

The jump feels a little heavy, which may be intentional, but personally I would prefer it to be lighter.

I think the sound effect is a little bit rough such as sand dust sound when jumping, perhaps a softer cartoon like sound would fit the game better. The game should have more color such as rainbow trail like a nyan cat would be fun as well as adding background sound. I would love to see the character leaving a color trail that paints its path like super meat boy apply to this game, I think it will be awesome.

The assets were a bit too simplistic.

When you jump in the air and then move the character left or right, you cant stop moving left or right until you land. It makes you feel like you have a little less control when moving in the air (which could be intentional)
