• Anal Reclamation: A True Story outlines an experience often stigmatized—sexual exploration that should be normalized but has yet to be accepted in the society I know of (for positionality, I am a White U.S. American genderfluid person). Like many radical actors, the developer narrates a private, vulnerable moment in a public, vulnerable format; since completing development, the game has been submitted to more than a handful of game jams. "Make us want to believe" is the primary theme of the Need 4 Believe Jam, and this work succeeds in doing so, casting aside socialized shame and hesitation, then reveling in a transformative experience with a wide outreach. The writing is succinct and feels sincere to me, taking on more of a conversational tone than a punched-up script. Its novel structure is used effectively: the literal imagery is constrained to glances, similar to a person's limited view of their own body, and visual metaphor is interspersed to punctuate certain moments. Overall, the narrative and implementation of elements express a feeling of readiness, following after immense trauma and a time of introspection. That feeling of certainty compelling the author aligns well with the secondary theme: "If you gotta ask, you'll never know."
