Loved:

  • Style of the game. It is much different than the rest of the entries, and in a good way.
  • Bidding mechanic. Very cool (coming from the economic geek in me, but still true).
  • Story/tutorial screens. This is probably the best tutorial/walkthrough of how to play in the whole jam.

Consider:

  • The theme was a little lost with the mechanics of the game, but the tutorial tied it in. Not a show-stopper, just something to consider.
  • The AI seems easy to outsmart. I did a few quick bids in the top part of the room and wandered to the left afterward. When I realized that the AI would follow me after a while, I stayed in the bottom of the room to keep the bidders from bidding on my yellow bids. Is this behavior intended? If so, play into this, but play on the fact that certain bidders to certain things. If done right, this mechanic would add a lot of strategy to the game (it made me feel smart to outsmart them).
  • Put a guide to what bids beat what in the gameplay screen. It is a little hard to remember what bids beat what at times, and I had to start the game again by refreshing my browser to ensure that I knew what bids beat what.
  • Is there a way to go from the results screen to the beginning screen.

Although this game has not been rated much yet, I think this is one of the most unique and interesting games in the jam. Maybe more levels and features in the future?

Thanks so much for the detailed feedback! Really glad you liked the style it's how most of my art looks lol. I'm glad the bidding mechanic was cool I was concerned it would come across a bit bland. The tutorial screen took a bit of feedback from other commenters to get right but I'm really glad with how it turned out!

Yeah I think if I had some more time I should definitely see if i can tie together the theme better. There's a stealing mechanic that I should clarify and incentivize more in the intro for sure.
The bidders have preferences for bidding and detection but I definitely need to work it a bit more. They used to be a lot tougher but I realized you literally couldn't win anything because of how much they bid so I dialed it down. Working on getting a better balance. I also think a big weak point in the game is how a lot of the mechanics of the ai and the bidding aren't obvious until you're really paying attention to when you can do certain things so I think maybe showing that clearer would be great.
The bids are ranked in the corner in order of which beats what, again something i should definitely clarify in the intro thats on me lol.

I'll definitely work on these and some more features in the future so stay tuned. Really appreciate the feedback again!

I like the idea, I used all my yellow/red/green and I don't know how to get more. Please change the BG music, it becomes annoying after hearing it loop for sometime. I really liked how you explained the mechanics of the game.

Also I left the game running for some time and nothing happened. Great job anyway!

Developer

You're supposed to take some of the tickets from the other bidders to get more, and theres actually no background music lol it's the walking sound effects and the ticket placing sounds (I made them drum sounds). You are right tho that there should be an option to disable the sounds and I should definitely add that and maybe a clearer explanation for how you steal tickets in the intro.

Also could you clarify the game running part? should the game close if it's been running too long?

Thanks for the feedback!

Interesting idea, wish i could run it!

Developer

oh no! does neither version work? lmk i'll see what i can do on my end!

It seems like I can't run any godot project except for those made with compatibility preset - vulkan drivers does not let me even launch it :(

Developer

nooo I could try but im not sure if the jam rules let me repost the game with a different rendering engine tho

Developer

okay i just read the faq and i can so i uploaded a fix let me know if it works for you

It works! Though crashes when the timer runs out :( Did I win anything? I wanna knooow
That is one hell of an intro though haha

On the stumbles - I would maybe explain the rules in a visual diagram kind of fashion, and the bidding rules were a bit weird. So, I get the item if my ticket outranks whatever was placed on the item? would be very helpful if I could see which ones are mine

Developer

Oh no i'll look into that timer crash maybe changing the renderer did something?
yeah if your ticket outranks you get the item, i'll see if i can polish up the explanation in the intro and add something to make it clearer who placed each ticket.

Thanks! Will be looking forward for updates!

Developer

Of course! and thanks for trying out the game!

also for some reason the timer crash isn't happening on my system, could you let me know some details so i can see if i can recreate it? (did you place a sticker on a specific item, or a sticker on every item, no stickers at all, etc)

Developer

I might have fixed it actually if you could try it now

Yeah it works now, thanks! Also big apprecciation for the web support.
The belonging icons are certainly the biggest positive addition. Figured out the stealing mechanics this time.

I would suggest that the skip in the beginning would skip first to the loaded dialogue, and then to the next screen, and not to the game, as without instructions impatient player will have a have  a hard time figuring what's going on.
Also - I won a bunch of stuff, but apparently there is nothing going on after it just lists them all? I feel like the huge improvement would be to at least show how good the player did by counting them all,  or even assigning them all prices, and showing how good player did compared to other bidders? Or you can just leave it as is as the art is subjective lol.

Still, I feel like some sort of final screen would be a nice finisher. Thanks for the updates!

You're definitely spot on with the dialogue skip option I'll add that in the next update. Also you're right that there should be a bit more feedback on the results screen. Originally didn't want to show the prices for that reason too also so people can't just see the prices and then bid on those next time they play but I think the pros outweigh the cons here. I'm also thinking showing who beat you would also be a cool addition. And a final screen is a good idea!

Thanks for playing and all the feedback and patience really appreciate it!

Oh, does godot allow to change project renderer in the middle of the work? If that won't be too big of a hassle I would be curious to try
Well, the edits are still open, but you can just upload it after the voting, or make a link somewhere accessible?
edit: thanks, let me try
