First of all, we had a similar idea in mind, but we would have combined the Pirate ship with the Space ship and made it look way more spacy :D
The controls are a little weird because the mouse is way too fast. I thought switching to full screen would make it better but it got worse :D
I think you should have gone for a WASD control and the mouse to aim, or the spaceship to slowly move/lerp to the mouse position. Sticking it to the mouse does not feel right.
