The game is cute, but very simple. There should be some kind of time pressure/limit so it becomes a proper challenge.
It took me a long time to understand that I needed to flip the switch on the anvil to make the guards. If you accidentally create a wrong piece you are stuck with it and you're forced to just go thourgh with it and create a wrong sword before you can continue. And a bug: if you place a raw material on the purple resize thing it just turns into a L blade, whatever it was. 😝
Relaxing music, fun art style. But honestly it feels like either that this is just a very small part of a larger game, or just an incomplete vision overall. I would love to have seen more incentive to engage in the main gameplay, some sort of time limit or even simple score keeping would already make this much closer to a game.
That was a lot of steps and things to memorize at the very beginning, and I just got super overwhelmed. It might be useful to guide the player through making their first couple swords just to get the hang of it.
I do really like the hand-drawn chill vibes though! And if you're hunting for sounds, there are so many free resources out there on the internet. I caved this year and finally got stuff off the unity asset store and it saved me precious hours of development time!
I really like the personality in the art for this game, the volume button being a sword who's blade adjusts makes me smile. The music is really nice and relaxing to listen to. I really like the idea and wordplay in the title as well!
The two pieces of advice I'd give you to improve this game would be to make the tutorial accessible during gameplay, I had to keep going back out to learn how to play but once I knew I knew. I'd also add a sound for each station! Sound is the most bang for your buck you'll get in game feel. Give a good sound effect to each station and the game will feel way more satisfying!
Awesome job!
Thank you for your feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed the art and music!!! I definitely wanted to add sounds for the stations but, since I was *determined* to make everything myself for this jam. It wasn't something I was able to get around to.
