  • this game is one of my top 3 favs this jam, tho im a bit biased bc i love platformers and yours is absolutely brilliant. the gameplay is fantastic, the story is funny, and it even has a flippin end cutscene! super rare for a game jam game. i love it! critique: a lot of items felt useless, and were overshadowed by a few standout ones (namely broom and rocket boosters). itd be good to adjust the levels to make situations where those two items arent the best item for the situation, so every item has an area where its the best item for that area. i like that you made a tutorial area for each item, and i think the tutorial did a really good job of showcasing where each item shines. grapple: itd be better if you could jump out of the grapple state, whether youre in the air or up against a wall. this item feels like it needs refinement the flags that let you know if you completed an area or not was a nice touch. they looked too much like the spikes tho, id recommend changing their sprite to be more unique, to better visually communicate what theyre for overall a fun little game, makes me want to play the other entries in your series
  • Excellent fully functional game! I had a lot of fun with this one. The controls could be a little tighter especially with the wall jumping, but all in all not bad.
  • The game is overall very cute and I can tell a lot of care went into the movement controls. With my limited judging time, I wasn't able to get very far, and I messed up a lot of wall jumps. Also, after I gave away the bell, I wasn't sure how to use the other items. I think there was a really good attempt at tutorializing this game, but it feels like it needed a bit more. Still, great game for the time allotted and it definitely connected to the theme.
  • Charming and inventive! Great job. My only gripe is that I didn't discover the pause button until struggling for 20 minutes to access the other tools. I wish the dash had its own input button.

THIS WAS AMAZING! FAV GAME SO FAR. MAIL ME TO ENGLAND YEEHAW

I don't think I've ever actually played a reverse metroidvania, I was always kinda skeptical of the concept, but this was super fun!!
You fit SO many mechanics in, and managed to make the game playable all the way through. Also the gameplay depth on top of that with dashing and low jumps and wall jumps?? hello??? So cool????

I want to say one thing I had issues with is the inflatable raft not working for all spikes, there was specifically a spike pit I think on the lower left part of the map I couldn't use it.

Some of the items were also a little confusing, although I really appreciate the effort to teach them with dedicated training rooms. The vacuum was kinda unwieldy and the broom room made me not really understand the height limit situation? I beat the room but in the real game I didn't feel sure how it worked so I didn't use it over the other items.

Actually can't lie I cheated the vacuum tutorial by flying over with the broom, killing myself to respawn by the button, and then vacuuming back (which was easier to do).

Ultimately I didn't really most of the items in the main game because there was a lot of redundancy (which is alright, I don't know if a game like this would work as well otherwise), I mainly stuck to my MVP the rocket boots with my #2 being raft. I think the stopwatch and the photo were the only ones I felt required to use. But that means I got to try and be creative with what I liked, and that's I think the fun part??? Idk

Also BLESS YOU for doing control reassignments. In a jam game?? Unheard of. Also I needed it because I have a layered keyboard and holding arrow keys while pressing other inputs is impossible for me.

Here's my score, though I am pretty tempted to try speedrunning it now that I know everything...

Also I love the ending cutscenes, very cute and funny lol. I'm sure your Dorothy and our Dorothy would get along lolol.

Thanks for this! That’s a lot of useful info.

Your broom-in-the-vacuum-room strategy is a surprise! That’s not supposed to be possible. durp :P

I had a better idea for the vacuum, but too late to implement: It should bind you to the floor, then you can slide left and right, and slide up walls and along ceilings as long as nothing blocks them.

FWIW the whole game is actually possible to beat without using items at all, and there’s a special medal at the end for that. If you really push it for speed, it’s possible to complete in under 2 minutes. Under 1 might be possible, but I haven’t done it.

There was so much to do here! I really appreciated all the platforming challenges! The music and art are really cute, it reminds me of old educational PC games in the best way! The open-ended was really fun, and I like not being forced to do things in a specific order.

The controls were really difficult, and it was really hard how to figure out how to use the items.  The wall jump was especially difficult. I would've appreciated a bit more written instructions about the items. Also, I appreciated that you could remap the controls, but I was unable to remap the jump to space bar where I'm used to having it because that is the button that brings up the menu.

Overall, a really impressive game for a jam! Would love to see what you do with it in the future.

This game was really neat! I liked how the approached to each changes based on which items you have, although it certainly feels like many of them can be cheesed by having certain items available (although that's definitely a part of the fun!). Some of the base movement mechanics seem a little janky. They're very interesting, but the controls to activate them can definitely be weird at times. I found myself often missing walljumps, as I like switching keys the moment I jump. Maybe some sort of leniency, like coyote time but for walljumping? Anyways, this was really fun to mess around with!
