Short description of the game
At Rest is a short first-person experience about loneliness, loss, forgotten memories, and how dreams can blend all of them together. Travel through the four stages of sleep to sink deep into the story of a person's life – and with it, the story of another person's passing.
Theme
The game takes place in the dreams of a person who is currently living through stressful events and misses the moments in her life where things were easy and simple. In her dreams, she returns to her childhood home where life felt happy and safe, and people she loved were still alive.
The game's story is about missing the simplicity and safety of a happy childhood during a time when life and adult responsibilities begin to feel overwhelming.
Development Process
The team had three members in various cities in Finland, and one person in Indiana, US. We did not have any noticeable issues with language barriers, although many people had different native languages. Overall, the process was surprisingly easy, and our communication worked well even though we only communicated through text.
