Theme incorporation
Recently we have been loving playing Balatro and thought it would be the perfect core mechanic for the fusion. Explore dungeons that may or may not be procedurally generated and fight random mobs to reach the boss. Hire new members from the Bazaar Book to add to your party to expand your playable Poker Hands. Stock up on potions for your long journey, and rest when you can.

Travel Dungeon Rooms with WASD till you fight monsters, drag cards onto your party members. Form Poker Hands (highcard, two pair, three pair, flush, straight,etc...) to apply multipliers. The higher the rank of your cards the more damage you deal! Certain Party members do certain things (you can have duplicates as well). Heal your party by finding the Bazaar and resting. Win by beating the final boss on the third floor.

Neat combat but movement needs more polishing.

Combat was good, I like the idea of the cards for combat but I think text and cards need to be made easier to see, like text was hard to read and it hard sometimes to tell with clubs and spades.

The movement felt off and it was buggy as it could go outside the rooms and there not really much on the dungeon crawler aspect of the game. Getting to the bazaar was also very strange as the camera just flew off at first like it was ragdolled.

Nice game idea , I think it could be much better with some polish  but still good work on the game.

I’m not a big poker/balatro/card game fan, so it was a bit confusing to me. After a bit of playing around the game I was able to figure out how to actually fight and started to kill enemies with some simple combinations.

But I felt that movement was a bit too floaty, I was able to walk through walls and the whole dungeon itself was just a bunch of rooms connected at the right angle to each other, so I was just going from one encounter to another.

I wish there were some kind of tooltips to help new players figure it out, so they can enjoy it better.

I think I was stuck on the first or second floor. I believe I’ve killed every enemy, but was unable to proceed to the next level or the final boss.

It feels that after some polish and more dungeon design it might be a really enjoyable game, here’s my play-through:

The combat felt a bit confusing but I could beat every enemy I encountered so I definetely did something well :D

The grid movement felt a bit strange. I couldn't really tell how far is the next grid tile. I think it's because the grid cells are too big. When I tried to move to the door - I thought I was 2 cells away at least - and actually it opened the door, I thought it was a glitch at first.

The bazaar didn't really work, regardless of what option I choose on the first page, it brings up the list of characters and I can't seem to access any other menu.

The combat interface was good.  I was a little unclear how the risk worked.  If I'm right, I could only discard so many cards, but I wanted the best hand to beat the opponents hand.  But then sometimes they got health back?

I'm not sure if there was a win state or not, or just a bunch of enemies.  And I clipped through the environment a ton.  But all in all, I enjoyed the core loop.  With a little work and some story, I could see this being a very moreish game.

Neat concept! I included it in my compilation video series of all of the games from the Dungeon Crawler Jam.

The idea is good and the best part is the cards I think, but the dungeon needs some better movement and align to the grid better. Some combat sounds and a more intricate combat system I think.

Keep at it!

I really like the idea of fusing balatro with dungeon crawling! I also found the style, especially on the cards very charming. And the number of animated enemies was also impressive!

The movement and camera bob walking didn’t have me fully convinced though. The forward movement sideways bobbing felt like it was swaying a whole lot more than makes sense for a person or a blob. It was also a bit on the slow side.

But my main issue with the crawling bit was really that I could walk through walls and that walls and doors didn’t seem to be on consistent positions with respect to the grid / my positioning.

I think I ended on the second floor, I’m quite sure I had defeated all enemies and had nothing more to do.

With the card game, it was mostly a couple of UX questions that had me grappling about what the rules of the game actually were. Even if balatro doesn’t tell you if you have enough points and multipliers, it is critical that the player exactly understands the rules.

And it was a bit sad that I didn’t get to have 5 characters for much of the game, even after buying up to having something like ten in total, since that locked me out of most hands and thus most reasons to to discard and try to improve my hand.

I think though, if you had time to work out the kinks, that I could become disturbingly addicted to this type of game.

I love card games so this was certainly a fun one. I enjoyed placing cards on the heroes, though the text was a bit hard to read and the peasant made me so angry lol. The artstyle was nice and the creatures gave me more joy than fear as I anticipate the next design. Great game!

I really like the premise. Playing cards on the heroes is a good mechanic, something that gives an extra layer of strategic depth. I would love to see the gameplay polish brought up a bit, I was walking through walls and I think I was on a half-grid at some point. Aesthetically it looks very good and I LOVED the dudes with stuff strapped to their backs! When I saw the butterfly guy I laughed, and then the game kept throwing more guys with stuff at me. I think one might have been a lamp? Fun stuff.

I'm very interested to see what kind of dedicated deck builder you could create with more time.

The concept is great! I enjoy poker and I liked Balatro alot so this poker combat was fun to play, especially with the different abilities for the characters. It took me a few minutes to figure out how to play but once I got it I was going pretty well for a while. The chicken card art were great too! I'd buy that deck!

Unfortunately, I got off grid a few times and prevented me from opening doors (but i could walk through the wall) and I couldn't find any stairs to go up. The Bazaar also didn't seem to work and after the first fight I seemingly had random party members added in the beginning after the first fight.

This had some potential and I'd like to see it fixed up post jam, as balatro is hot right now and this one had high potential IMO.

The cards look great and the overall presentation is nice. The combat system is super fun including the characters' abilities.

Is it possible to descend (ascend) to the second floor? I can't find any stairs. Movement is clunky and I always  eventually get out of the grid (can't open door anymore but can walk through walls to visit the full floor).

Thanks for sharing.

I like the idea of the card combat system and the multiplier and that it makes a difference which character is playing which card.

Would be nice if you give some more information how this works, took me a while to figure it out.

The movement needs some updates, the transistion take to long and the bobbing is unusually high, also at some point I got off grid and was moving through the walls instead of the doors.

Thanks for sharing.

It's definetely interesting idea but basic movements mechanic needs to be repaired.
