This is some nice work on level generation!

Gameplay is distinctly lacking any sense of feedback or direction. I was shooting things and getting no response, hard to understand what's happening, etc ... designers need to think a little bit more about these things ...

On the level generation side, it's a good achievement to have something that'll generate playable levels without major issues (he says having played it once). The next step up from this is always the trickiest - making them purposeful. This is where the design and programming need to overlap - you need to know what you're designing a level for, what all the different shape possibilities do for the player experience, and start tweaking the rules to figure out how to make levels that feel authored rather than just generated. Big task, but not impossible - drop me a line if you want to discuss it.
