Play game
No Haven in Hallow Cove's itch.io pageAuthor's Note
Credits: Twine template made by Nyehilism Writing (https://nyehilismwriting.tumblr.com//). Otherwise, all coding is my own. No images or sound included.
This is a text based game, made using Twine (sugarcube? I think?) and can be played on phone or desktop.
Background: This game was partly inspired by my love for good (if not cheesy) teen mysteries. The other part was me visiting the town I grew up in for the first time since I graduated high school and realising that, wow, I am still very much 10 years old here. I lost contact with all the friends I grew up with, so when I visited (and they were no longer there) the images of them that I had in my head remained very frozen and tied to nostalgia. I started writing this game as a way to process those feelings, the love I still had for my friends and the annoyance I had with myself that I couldn't let them go. And though this game has a lot of faults, and the writing... leaves much to be desired, it still holds a fond place in my heart as something that I really did give my all to.
Why I dropped it: Honestly, I jumped in too quick. My coding skills are very poor, so I was struggling with that part, but I also needed more time to develop my writing skills. And on top of that, I got burned out. It's an incredible amount of work making an IF game. I will never again complain about the lack of variation in a game I'm playing. Promise!!
I did have the major plot points mostly figured out. I knew how it would end, I knew how I wanted things to go, but I just didn't end up being able to finish it. And now it's been... two years? Three years? And anyway, this game is good and dead.
I don't think anyone who did read it (I deleted the game page and Tumblr) will see this, but just so I can put it into the universe anyway, THANK YOU for giving me a shot. Thank you for reading my words and for the couple of people who took the extra time to send me kind messages about it. That really meant the world to me; I still carry that gratitude around with me today.
I believe the demo I'm submitting ends at chapter two, and should be playable-I squashed most of the bugs before I abandoned it. Thanks for this opportunity! I'm looking forward to seeing the other games in the graveyard.
