Put any questions about the game jam right here!

Which kind of ready assets or resources i can use?

Host

You are able to use free sound and asset sources but it is recommended to make them during the jam. But I know that is really hard to make assets too so that's why I am allowing you to use free assets and sounds.

Thx!

No Problem!

Is AI coding available?

Host (1 edit)

Yes, but not greatly appreciated. I am allowing it because of the short time frame.

Can you build/compile the game project before the jam starts? Unity takes quite a while to build the project for the first time- doesn't matter if the project is completely empty.  The goal of this is to avoid a long build time after the game itself is completed.

Host

If you mean just opening the project for the first time just to not wait for unity to load during the actual game jam time, that is allowed. But if you mean work on the game for the competition before it starts, that is not allowed and you would also not know the theme.

Well what I mean by "Build" is to compile the project into an executable game.
The first time you do this in Unity, it can take ages, even if your project is completely untouched from the time it was  ever opened. So my question is can I compile the empty project right now, so that when I actually create and finish the game, it wont take so long to compile into an executable.

Oh Ok! Thanks for the clarification! But the build time does not count for the 1 hour. It only counts for development.

Alright thanks. And sorry for being a nuisance

So publishing the game, exporting, etc.. can be done outside the one hour?

Host

The publishing does not count, the time frame is only for the development process.

Is team allowed and if yes what is the limit

Host

It is allowed and there is no limit!

Thanks

The art counts towards the development time?

Host

You can use some pre-made art but not too much.

How do you know if a game was really made in under 60 minutes?

Host(+1)

I can check when the scripts were made, if the game was made before the jam, etc.

What counts toward development time? Like, the idea or something like that. Does it count?

Host(+2)

The idea does not count. The only thing that counts is when you are actually coding/making the game.

Thank you.

Hello, I just finished my game but I realize that because of the tests and that I left my software open in the background, it takes me about 1 hour and 45 minutes, so I don't know if I can publish it or not. Do I need to redo it or not?

Host

You can publish your project because the time is only coding time. If the game was already finished then and you test it. That is fine. You can publish it, but if you feel like you want to redo it then you can redo it.

It's good, I've published it :)
