Ah yes, here we are. For a scaredy cat I sure love to torture myself-- I did say I am interested in yandere visual novels but I am also interested in creepy games where I don't move so I'm stuck in one place, that way I won't feel the need to scream if I have to move a millimeter. Believe me, I can scream just from moving one inch o(TヘTo)
Other than that, don't expect too much horror here, if I did play one I'm pretty sure I'd full on die. That or I'd quit midway because my own heart can't handle the stress of whatever monstrosity I decided to foolishly play.... ( ノ ゚ー゚)ノ
I've also belatedly put in which games are for 18+ and which may be for 16+ with content warnings since I completely forgot to do it. Admittedly I didn't think anyone would check out but with the amount of times I've unknowingly spammed people who follow me with my activity, I thought I should wise up and give the appropriate warning, especially for minors.
It doesn't explicitly state on the game description that it's for 18+ audience but based on the gameplay and warnings it is for 18+, there is only one content warning: heavy gore, which is inivetible to get since there are only 2 endings and both of them feature heavy gore. These were taken from the game's description, be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.
--------------------------------------------
It's pretty simple and the reason why I put it here in this collection is because of the gore. It's not super detailed but still a disturbing sight. Also it's quite a quick little demo with only 2 endings so far in the game. The visuals are a little off-putting despite it not supposed to be off-putting but eventually you become used to it. It also is quite fast paced and doesn't take much time to finish.
This Visual Novel is intended for 18+ audience with content warnings such as: contains strong language, blood/gore, flashing lights, mentions of suicide, and loud sounds. These are taken directly from the game description, please be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.
--------------------------------------
It's technically a horror visual novel but honestly it's quite confusing. Not just in a plot perspective but also in a storytelling way on how they present the game as well as the mechanics of this game. Since it wasn't made in Renpy which is the typical way you create a visual novel, there are major limitations like there being no way to control the volume or the text speed, limited save files, and not being able to scroll back. The plot itself is confusing despite it keeping its core plot true and to be honest, it feels like the characters themselves don't match the setting they are given, even the killer in some of the endings. But those are just my thoughts, you are free to play it of course.
It isn't explicitly stated on the game description whether or not this game is intended for 18+ audience but due to the nature of the warnings, I believe it is for 18+. The content warnings are: blood, minor gore, knives, stalking, obsession, & sexual references. These content warnings are taken directly from the game description, please be advised, and play at your own risk.
-------------------------------------------
This isn't much of a horror game but one that can be surprising, admittedly you can see the direction of the ending based on the flow of the story but its predictibality isn't that bad, in fact it quite works with this visual novel. There are hints wherein it seems as though Esme knows a bit more than she should but it doesn't really hinder anything at all. Also the way Esme is set up is interesting, it seems to acknowledge that Esme is just another stereotypical yandere but she does have her own selfish reason to be like this. The writing isn't that strong but it certainly has it's charm, but the ending cards are one I enjoyed most!
It doesn't explicitly state on the game description whether or not it's for 18+ audience in the game description, but due to the nature of the game it is intended for 18+ with content warnings such as: torture, kidnapping, and drugging. These warnings were taken directly from the game description, please be advised, and play at your own risk.
------------------------------------------
Do not be fooled by the aesthetic (oh who am I kidding, cute pastel is almost a staple in horror subculture now) because boy does this game not pull its punches at the very end. Of course there is no explicit gore but with the text implying it you can't help but wince at the torture poor MC is going through. Also, just one wrong option you click can totally derail the "best" ending you can get so unless you're super patient and taking notes, you can go in by yourself, but if you're tired of getting the same ending or just are too curious to see what the other ending is like, then a walkthrough is helpfully added for your viewing needs!
This Visual Novel is intended for 18+ audience with content warnings such as: body Horror, death, implied drug abuse, implied ableism, and verbal abuse. There are more content warnings however they tread spoiler territory, these are taken directly from the game description, please be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.
--------------------------------
It deserves to be here. I am not joking my heart palpitated so much I was about to keel over. I have so many theories on whatever the hell was going on. Read the content warnings and whatnot because this visual novel has fried the ever loving shit out of me. It's a good ass game and it goes hard on its genre, great visual novel that terrified me but also made me wanting to know answers despite it being vague as shit.
It doesn't explicitly state in the game description whether or not this game is intended for 18+ audience but with my admittedly limited playthrough and skimming through the ending guide, I can tentatively say it's for 16+ audience with content warnings such as: swearing, violence/gore depicted, death/bad ends, and eye trauma. These warnings were taken directly from the game description, please be advised, and play at your own risk.
----------------------------------
At first I didn't even think this was a horror visual novel because of how lowkey everything was. I liked the story and how we can build our MC (tho I mostly did the nice option lmao) and I liked how MC talked about it! But I did not expect that ending, actually I kinda did because of the many hints the visual novel sprinkled yet even then I was caught off guard at the very end. The amount of endings are cool and really inspires you to reach for them but I'm content with my ending AHAHAHA
It doesn't explicitly state in the game description whether or not this game is intended for 18+ audience but with my playthrough and exploration I infer this is for 16+ audience with content warnings such as: blood, and violence. These warnings were taken directly from the game description, please be advised, and play at your own risk.
---------------------------------------
It's not scary compared to the other games, but nearing the end if you choose another option you would begin a chase sequence that has a timer so that really made my heart beat twice as fast. But it's quite light hearted compared to the other games within this collection so this may be a sort of safe little game.
It doesn't explicitly state in the game description whether or not this game is intended for 18+ audience but with my playthrough I think it's intended for 18+, there's no sexual themes but it has pretty blatant violence (though not super detailed). These warnings were taken from my playthrough, please be advised, and play at your own risk.
----------------------------------
Even for such a simple story it's quite well written in my point of view because I could feel the tenseness of the story despite me knowing how everything will play out, I still felt wary. Not only that I enjoyed getting the bad ending because there was an incentive to do so, it was fun because of that! It's also really great for being the first visual novel or renp'y game that they made!
It doesn't explicity state in the game description whether or not this game is intended for 18+ audience, but from my playthrough and what I can remember there are themes of kidnapping, drugging, alcohol, general yandere shenanigans, violence, and implied murder. I am not completely sure about the other specific warnings but here is the general idea, please be advised, and play at your own risk.
--------------------------------------
So this is a rare one where it has both the demo and the full version out! I know I'm pretty late into this but I really like the demo, I love the MC as well as the other characters (though I'm biased because of MC's incredible humor and how relatable they are towards me). They also built up the multiple yandere characters and kind of showed how each yandere became infatuated with MC (though that is through my own opinion) and it can be quite unnerving especially when you're able to pick up the yandere behavior from the get go while all the others are left to stay ignorant. It also ends in a really great (though not great note for MC) note where it makes you want to play the full game to see what was happening!
The full game can be found here! "Infatuation", be warned that some of the endings are buggy based on the comments of the visual novel and from my own experience.
It doesn't explicity state whether or not this game is for 18+ audience but it was stated that this game isn't suitable for children with content warnings such as: Profanity, Blood, Insects, Written heavy Violence and Death. These were taken directly from the game description, please be advised, only play when you are 18 or older, and play at your own risk.
-----------------------------
Truly belongs to this collection, my heartbeat went crazy reading through this visual novel. The character shown here is honest to gods crazy in terrifying ways, it's downright disgusting in one scene but other than that everything slowly or quickly deteriorates. The more she talks the more horrified I become as I try to understand, but I genuinely can't. Honestly, the psychological horror of this character is off-putting, and not only that but the gore and effects of the game help elevate it. Tread carefully when you play this and heed the content warnings.
It doesn't explicitly state in the game description whether or not it's for 18+ audience but from one of the game images it states that it is a horror game and shouldn't be played by those who are sensitive or easily triggered by horror or gore content. The creator has stated in their tweet that the game isn't for 18+ as there is no NSFW (I believe they meant the sexual kind), but here are the content warnings such as: gore, stalking, kidnapping, drugging, dismemberment, suicide, self harm, and of course murder. These were taken directly from the game description, please be advised, and play at your own risk.
--------------------------------------------
Well I got the Good End by being a simp and everybody lived, hooray! But alternatively the horror aspect is really strong when you decided to be a lil shit and have a low likeability score with Li. I'm very curious about how the other routes will play out but until then it's a pretty great demo! Recommend to give a try!
Edit: Okay so it got a new update with a new character and route, his name is Tao and I had the opposite experience playing his route. I got his Bad End 3 times so sad to say you can't simp for him unfortunately. But either way, his route contains a bit more gore (especially towards his Bad End) than Li's and his "yandere-ness" is pretty tame to the point you don't really see it. But either way it's still good and you should still totally try it! Just be careful about the warnings and know where your limitations are.
It doesn't explicitly state whether or not it's for 18+ audience but in my playthrough I believe it can be for 16+ since there were other factors that only made it into a shock factor. The content warnings are: violence, blood, and limb severance. These were taken through my playthrough, please be advised, and play at your own risk.
----------------------------------------------
I honestly contemplated putting it into the Random Simple Games but I decided to put it here because it did surprise me. The art and sound effect choices were great and nicely picked, the story is simple and straightforward, and I don't want to spoil it since it's quite a short kinetic visual novel. There is some blood and gore but not too extreme.
It doesn't explicitly state whether or not it's for 18+ audience but from my playthrough I can roughly think it's for 16+. The content warnings are such: emotional abuse, family death, blood. These were taken directly from the game description, please be advised, and play at your own risk.
------------------------------------------
Dang, was this quite a read. It has such an unsettling atmopshere and the voice acting helps to elevate it. Everyone did such a unique job on it I absolutely love it. I won't say much about it because for the true experience you need to go completely blind. There's no gore or anything explicit yet it doesn't need that to truly be able to capture that atmosphere it has. By the end of it you might have more questions rather than answers but I still hope you experience it!
It doesn't explicitly state it's for 18+ audience, but there really isn't much of content warnings other than cartoon violence, blood, some satanic scribbling, and supernatural themes. The first two came from the game description while the last two came from my playthrough.
-----------------------------------------
It's not that scary... I just am a scaredy cat... But I'll put it here because I technically did get scared-- ANYWAY I JUST WANNA SAY THIS GAME IS SO COOL! The characters (despite only 2) are so full of life and I love the MC's personality, also how she's very organized in her job which you rarely see. Beaford?? My boy let me hold him-- This is a seriously great game for the developer's first time and I'm looking forward to the sequel!!
It doesn't explicitly state whether or not it's for 18+ audience but I think it can be for 16+ (I am tentative with it). This statement is provided from the game description regarding content warnings: "The game is a horror game and as such contains scenes some people may find disturbing. There is a full content warning within the game, accessible through the main menu (click the polaroid image on the lower right). However it should be noted there is not explicit imagery of gore, and no sexual content." So please keep it in mind and play at your own risk.
-----------------------------
It was spooky and unsettling, it has short bite sized stories that are great because not only is it easy to consume but also because you get to remember the stories which are important due to the twists you'll experience. There aren't jumpscares or any gorey image but the sound effects can be surprising and the text can be a little disturbing, heed the content warnings if you're really concerned!
This Interactive Fiction is intended for 18+ audience with content warnings such as: drugs, alcohol, violence, optional sexual content and other adult themes. These were taken from the game description, please be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.
------------------------------------
It's a bit simple since it is an interactive fiction but it's quite the story, as of now there are only 2 chapters with the 3rd coming its way but the remaining chapters that are shown are quite the story. I've never been that fond of monsters since they are either written or drawn in a way that isn't so different from humans thus making them not unique or super grotesque in a way that just makes me want to move away, but this one found a unique balance between the two that I struggled with! The mystery is in its early phases but the characters that are shown are quite the treat and help move the plot along with their individual personalities! I can't wait to see more scenes and uncover the mystery!
It isn't really a horror game, as it is a more spooky or unsettling game with concerning themes of isolation, spiralling to insanity, dark thoughts, and outer space themes. These were taken from my playthrough and what I can remember. Please be advised, and play at your own risk.
-------------------------------
So this wasn't that much of a scary game but it certainly was unsettling especially with the dialogue and sprite art. The music slaps though. It's quite the nice game that can give an eerie feel especially when the MC randomly goes to the deep end only to return somewhat normal. The story of why he came there isn't explained but it certainly makes you curious to see what happened to the guy and his unfortunate circumstances.
This Visual Novel is intended for 18+ audience with content warnings such as: involves strong language, sexual content, (potentially) eye straining text, minor screen shakes , and minor unsettling themes (typical yandere behaviour). More information about it can be found directly in the game description. Please be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.
-------------------------------------
This is an 18+ game so please adhere to that! Since it is a demo (and I've learned to understand demos) there isn't much content for any yandere shenanigans but the design, look, aesthetic, and sound effects of this game is seriously well done. The story is intriguing and entertaining with a good enough MC (listen they're bland because they're a player stand in but this MC do be good) and some of the choices??? Hell yeah lmao. Any other warnings you're concerned about can be found in the game page and the only reason I don't put them in is because I went through a playthrough of being amiable towards Ren so I'm not sure about all the others but even then, please give it a try and draw from your own judgment!
This Visual Novel is directed towards mature audience (which is 18+) with content warnings such as: vivid descriptions of blood and gore, body disfiguration, violence, description of injuries, and implied domestic violence/cannibalism. The first two are taken from the game description while the rest were taken from my playthrough. Please be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.
---------------------------------
My heart beat went sky high with this. Thank god for me there isn't too much vivid blood or whatnot but even within those limitations it gave me the absolute scare and surprise. It's a short visual novel and the plot goes pretty quickly so if I say much, it'll likely already spoil what's happening so I think it's best to properly read the game's description before you try it out for yourself!
This Visual Novel is intended for 18+ audience. There are no prominent content warnings that wouldn't spoil the visual novel (rest assured, there is no major gore or anything disturbing other than shocks) but due to the nature of the visual novel, it is ideal you are 18+. Please be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.
----------------------------------------
Welp, I got sufficiently spooked at this one! It's a bit of a slow burner and though it's short, it felt ages to me. There is only one route here so don't worry if you feel like you're missing out, but damn, it was really interesting and scary for me. Can't wait to try out the sequel to this game!
It doesn't explicitly state whether it's for 18+ audience in the game description, but it's horror alright. I can't remember what the content warnings are... simply because I failed miserably due to my fear. But do be aware that since it's a horror game it would have the following such as loud noises, disturbing images, unsettling music, and the like.
------------------------------------
Honestly this game made my fucking heart beat wild and me to let out a tiny scream, I'm pretty sure I just played a quarter of this game but I'll return to playing it properly when I'm not a wussy.... Great game though, the music was the big deciding factor on why I was so fucking terrified and the design of Ayumi is both somehow cute and horrifying, come play it, I'm sure ya'll are braver than me...
Since it's in its early stages of development, there's no clear indication which audience it's targeted to, which is why it's important to keep with the development logs or other social media aspect to make sure.
------------------------------------
No idea if it has horror but sure as hell has unsettling vibe to it. Great demo even if it can kinda feel lackluster, maybe because it's still in its Alpha Demo stages, there's a lot of promise with a rare MC that just fits with the entire narrative and the story is very intriguing. Can't wait to see more of this~!
EDIT:
This needs a serious updating, especially when it has been a long time since I last played it!
It's not explicitly stated whether or not this is intended for 18+ audience but based on the content warnings, it can be inferred for 16+ (tentative), these content warnings are: suggestive theme, stalking, drug use and other harmful behavior. These were taken from the game description, please be advised, and play at your own risk.
--------------------------------------
Yandere Girl Time-- Anyway, this game was a casual one but you can tell how clingy Lena is and when you interact with her she feels slightly normal but quite unhinged when the MC doesn't realize it. It kinda felt a bit hard to continue for me, I don't want to call it boredom but I think it just didn't vibe with it, it's a good game regardless what I experienced~
As of now there are no scary elements but with the recent devlog there seems to be new scenes to reconsider. I'm excited to see what happens next especially since this is my first sort of 3d Model visual novel I've tried, I would like it if we had more dialogue and there was some sort of merit or personality within the dialogue, other than that it's quite a nice visual novel.
EDIT: Since my last blurb, I think there has been 2-3 updates that has helped extend the demo! Story-wise it's pretty confusing, especially with the dialogue and character presentation as well as the progression of the plot but other than that, it's quite pleasant to read through! Highly recommend to read through the game files in order to catch some secrets! The creator has encouraged this from the discord server.
The full game contains themes that are suitable only for 18+ audience but as of now, it only shows content warnings such as: live dissection and gore (these two are skippable), the obligatory blood, discussion of yandere actions, and implied violence. The first two are taken directly from the game description while the last parts are taken from my playthrough of the game, again, I think the demo is suitable for 16+ (tentative) but do read through the full on content warnings for the full game. Please be advised, and play at your own risk.
------------------------------------------
As of now it doesn't have THAT many horror elements but it does allude to it and also the fact that the MC's subtlety is like an elephant in a goddamn china store makes me want to cover my face in second hand embarrassment and also laughing through all hells. I'm curious to what happens next but oh god MC, please just act normal you're not doing anyone favors with that sort of attitude, in fact you're already SUSPICIOUS AS ALL HELL.
This Visual Novel doesn't explicitly state whether or not it's for 18+ audience from the game description but I'd say it is for 18+ audience, not only for the kind of work the creator does but also for the community around it. The content warnings are as follows: sudden imagery, blood/gore, surreal/unsettling visuals, dreamlike atmosphere, unreality, stalking, romance, gas stations, bus rides, too many teeth, he wont stop staring, quick morning showers, a tasty snack, why wont he stop staring, watching television, taking a nap, making choices, aisles and aisles. These were taken directly from the game description, please be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.
------------------------------------------
Finally played this sucker and whoo boy do I have a lot of feelings! It keeps a lot of the old content which I don't really mind because the old content was unique and it stuck to you. But with the new content there's a jarring shift to what was first normal to you (the surrealness of the world) now becomes "normal" but is so different from what you're used to! At least, to me. It takes quite some patience since it can feel repetitive but it is so worth it!
You can find the original game here "JOHN DOE" but many of its routes are found within the new version~!
Oh boy, where do I begin with this visual novel. I feel like any content warnings I put here are to be major spoilers to the game itself... Therefore I'll just say that it's for 18+ audience, keep an open mind but do know where your boundaries are, and remember it's okay if you feel shaken or confused. I don't remember exactly if it has a content warning in the visual novel itself, but seeing as this visual novel has an update, I'll play through it all and see what's going on. Please be advised, only play when you're the intended audience, and play at your own risk.
------------------------------------
Do not be fooled by the art or writing or whatever ridiculous notion this game has-- I assure you this is creepy and unsettling despite having its moments of sheer ridiculity and randomness to the point you may forget you're even playing something that's tagged as Psychological Horror because damn, this game has no jumpscares but it's unsettling, creepy, and there are so many twists and turns it's almost baffling. Wonderful, wonderful game, I can't wait for there to be more!!
It doesn't explicitly state whether or not this game is for 18+ audience, but based on the content warnings it can inferred to be directed for 18+ audience with content warnings such as: depictions of stalking, assault, physical/mental abuse, self-harm, homicide and allusions to suicide. These were taken directly from the game description, please be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.
-------------------------------
It's a genuinely off-putting game and the main antagonist isn't even there, on my first playthrough I already died LMAO but it's quite interesting especially with the... love interest(?) I'm excited to see more of this~!
EDIT:
It updated and now there's more backstory about the other character, Roommate (alias), it's intriguing because it doesn't work as a normal yandere plot as we are all used to. Instead, it changes the roles and situations and really puts the focus on the thriller aspect of what we can sometimes be blinded by the allure of yanderes.
It's slow paced at the first part, but I view it as a way to peek into MC's mental state and how disjointed and exhausted they are. Not just that, but it's an interesting situation because we went from a boring start to a tense thriller middle, however you can only access it through the test scenes. I also like how we can get more information regarding the Roommate but it can be a bit tedious having to go back and forth to see what's new and could be used as a clue.
But again, it's still in the testing stage! Turns out well~!
