Time To Get A Heart Monitor

Ah yes, here we are. For a scaredy cat I sure love to torture myself-- I did say I am interested in yandere visual novels but I am also interested in creepy games where I don't move so I'm stuck in one place, that way I won't feel the need to scream if I have to move a millimeter. Believe me, I can scream just from moving one inch  o(TヘTo)

Other than that, don't expect too much horror here, if I did play one I'm pretty sure I'd full on die. That or I'd quit midway because my own heart can't handle the stress of whatever monstrosity I decided to foolishly play.... ( ノ ゚ー゚)ノ

I've also belatedly put in which games are for 18+ and which may be for 16+ with content warnings since I completely forgot to do it. Admittedly I didn't think anyone would check out but with the amount of times I've unknowingly spammed people who follow me with my activity, I thought I should wise up and give the appropriate warning, especially for minors.

A cute dress up game where you need to match your date's outfit and go on a date with them!
Visual Novel

This Visual Novel doesn't specifically state whether or not it's for 18+ audiences but based on my experience it probably is around 16+ with content warnings such as: stalking, car crashes, death, murder, disturbing imagery, atmospheric horror, grainy images, body horror, and blood. These warnings were taken directly from my experience with the game. Please be advised, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

God, this really blew my admittedly low expectations.

There was so much going on with this Visual Novel that the game page didn't fill out on, but I suppose that's the mystery and allure of the game. It really pulled some disturbing things, which, while not graphic was incredibly atmospheric.

There isn't any loud music, it's all so chill with atmospheric sounds which really pull you in with the tenseness of the situation and terrifying aspects of the game. The villain here is quite scary because of how real he is, that you can find someone like him in the real world, but there does seem to be some supernatural elements at play here.

In the chase sequence, it can be a bit of a pain because there's no save/load functions, so if you make a mistake you gotta redo it from the beginning but I have to say it's quite well-done if they toned down the grainy filter. It served its purpose to the overall chase, but as you continue on it can be dizzying and a pain to deal with. The villain also kind of loses his scary factor as the chase continues but there is a sort of tenseness on whether or not the character can escape. Because of that, I still think they did good with their execution!

This Visual Novel doesn't specifically state whether or not it's for 18+ audiences but based on my experience it probably is around 17+ with content warnings such as: violence, death, body horror, chronic illness, grief, and dysfunctional relationship. These warnings were taken directly from the game page and the start of the game. ------------------------------------------------

My god, this was such a beautifully haunting piece. I don't normally go for gothic horrors since it was never on my radar but jesus this was so well done I felt genuine goosebumps as I read through the story and felt even more confused because it answered no questions, created more questions, but kept an elegant air of mystery, horror, and desperation. I absolutely adore the story set up, characters, and the way the art that we see is there to amplify the experience of something genuinely unnerving and distract us from the way things are progressing.

I also have to say, I love me some unreliable narrator. Our MC is no saint just like how his wife isn't one as well, but these two characters work well to bring out a horror of their own. I'm more biased with Ending 2 because it feels more mysterious and delves into Sam 's (MC) psyche, but Ending 1 was quite gruesome.

A VN about being pampered by your adorable girlfriend, who would never ever want to hurt you.
Visual Novel

This Visual Novel doesn't specifically state whether or not it's for 18+ audiences but based on my experience it probably is around 17+ with content warnings such as: depression, brief mentions of attempted suicide, asphyxiation, violence, and some bloody imagery. These warnings were taken directly from the game page. Please be advised, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

Honestly, I myself haven't finished this wholly but I like the set and build up of Ayumu's (MC's) relationship with Nagi. They make it a point to hammer in how odd Nagi's existence is, and even though it gets weaker and weaker, it's always in the back of your mind which is very telling of how much you're denying that something is wrong.

I like the distortions and obsessions of Nagi, how one moment she's kind and caring, to being overly caring to the point of suffocation, and downright terrifying as a last resort to Ayumu. Highly recommend try it out~!

This Visual Novel is explicitly for 18+ audiences with content warnings such as: animal death, decay/rot, worms/maggots, cannibalism, blood, vivid description of rotting away, vivid descriptions of death, violence and gore. These warnings were taken directly from the game page, starter screen, and my own experience. Please be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

Honestly, it's such a great VN. So descriptive and vivid in its imagery that you become immerse. The dark colors of the VN really help makes things grainy like you're viewing this through an old film which I think falls in line with the developer's works and aesthetic. Not only that, but their distinct way of writing a story is very enthralling and immersive, I really like it when I zone out and can focus on the VN, become entangled with its own way of writing.

However, as stated by the warning, they do delve quite vividly in the gore and decay aspect, some parts of it will make you uncomfortable and I'm giving out that warning even though it's really well written.

I sleep. I dream. I make up things that I would never say. I say them very quietly.

This Visual Novel is explicitly for 18+ audiences with content warnings such as: death, murder, child abuse, mention of kidnapping, acts of violence, and off screen torture. These warnings were taken directly from the game page and my own experience. Please be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

I am just gonna say I rambled SO much about this VN. If I could, I would put this in my "WARNING! This Is Really Cool!" collection however because there are some heavy themes present I decided against it. But man, I really love the atmosphere, aesthetic, and vibe of the VN itself.

Despite it being quite short, there is undoubtedly a sense of both completeness yet yearning for more. Based on the content warnings I suppose you could infer what's going on within the story and it gives you a portion of the what the character in the story suffered through. But by all means it does not excuse what happened later within the story.

The art is simplistic yet beautiful and it makes such great use of the color blue and twists the symbolism and narrative, as well as twisting insanity in just a few lines. It is best to note that the creator specifies this to be a yangire (a once normal person turned violent due to trauma) which is exactly what happens to the character in the story.

It's CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED. Sure, the story does feel wonky and incomplete in the middle, but for a first VN it is absolutely beautiful and wonderful, flaws and imperfections included! Highly recommend playing it through once you carefully sift through the warnings~!!

Please be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

I have to say, I was impressed with this one as I actually didn't anticipate the ending myself but also the little clues that are sprinkled throughout every chocies is interesting!

I like how unsettling "Axel" is, and how normal everything is that it lulls you to a false state of security until you are hit with whatever ending you get because it actually surprised and terrified me a bit.

------------------------------------------------

Man, this had such the Victorian feel to it, I love how everything look, and though it felt quite quick bear in mind it's still not fully finished. The gimmick with Fyodor could be seen very quickly however the Crawling Rot is an interesting character.

------------------------------------------------

It's an admittedly cute VN all things considers, it doesn't really give much of a background of what's happening or why the plot is set up like this as we were just plopped right in without a definite answer, however it's a good first start VN and I like the space/otherworldly themes~!

------------------------------------------------

Gotta say, it looked pretty cute and chill but it really quick and heavy with its warnings. The MC is pretty quick to judge and distrustful but I understand now the situation was much more complex than I could imagine and it's really not MC's fault for reacting the way they did.

Aside from that, once the kidnapping does happen, you are greeted with helplessness which is played perfectly well that even I was panicking a bit. I think it would benefit for being a bit more expositionary of what's going on since the art doesn't give too much tension, but aside from that it is good!

Visual Novel

This Visual Novel doesn't specifically state whether or not it's for 18+ audiences but based on my experience it is for 16+ with content warnings such as: blood, fictional depictions of corpses, and manipulation/gaslighting. This was taken from both the game page and start up screen of the VN. Please be advised, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

This was quite the delightful little VN and tuly pretty unsettling. The VN itself is pretty intriguing as it starts of with a mystery but you could gather clues during the first half and then interogate by the second half. It's an interesting case where the LI is pretty good at manipulating us though we do have somewhat of a hunch what's going on and that none can be trusted.

Really think this is a cool little VN, and quite well-made!

------------------------------------------------

Man this is such an artistic VN. I really love how it looks and the mystery behind it all, there's something in the way the story progresses that leaves you wanting to learn more about what really transpired and the several key points that VN gives out for a bit.

For me personally, I'd love it if it was actually Past MC being the one who orchestrated everything was responsible for not only pushing Marcelo to do this but at the same time it seems out of character for MC to be the one to have done it since their kind character is vouched by both Marcelo and Bradan... There's a lot of intentional misdirections, or maybe even red herrings being placed. It's quite the mystery and I highly recommend trying it out! Though be warned of the warnings.

These warnings were taken directly from the game page, and my own experience. Please be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

Man, this doesn't really hesitate on what is happening because even then it really dives head first into what's happening after a few more moments. There is no rhyme or reason why Sable does what he does, he's just bloodthirsty and chaotic, seeming to like the power he displays over someone and the thrill of death (though not applicable to him). I would recommend it only if you're okay with timed events and thankfully there aren't lots of blood or explicit violence, only written in the text.

But it is quite satisfying to get the 18 endings there are (11 death/bad endings, and 7 survivable endings, 4 of which are revenge and 3 of which are kidnappings). There's a walkthrough provided so don't worry.

How do you say 'I love you'?
Visual Novel

This Visual Novel doesn't specifically state whether or not it's for 18+ audiences but based on my experience it is for 16+ with content warnings such as: bloody image, general yandere shenanigans, implied death via killing, disturbing sounds, and death. This was taken from my experience playing with it. Please be advised, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

I have to say, I adore how the visual novel has voiced Dahlia because you can really tell how deranged this woman is to the point where Nyla can't even say a word. The way the conversation kept progressing with Dahlia showing to be even more unhinged via the voice acting is such a great chill factor, I do wish we could see her visually unwinding but since this is only a O2A2 game jam I understand why they couldn't.

Highly recommend trying it out!

Deep in the forest, deep in the field...
Visual Novel

This Visual Novel doesn't specifically state whether or not it's for 18+ audiences but based on my experience it is for 16+ with content warnings such as: fires, vivid description of injuries (specifically burns), and unsettling audio. This was taken from my experience playing with it. Please be advised, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

Honestly, the way Keith (MC) describes the injuries someone can have if they're injured is the real turning point of why I felt I should put it in this collection because there's something so raw about it, and then we get to the ending where it's the buildup of the mystery and left on a chilling note wondering just what did the two characters encounter in that field...

Tiny horror visual novel.
Visual Novel

This Visual Novel (I'm not entirely sure) doesn't specifically state whether or not it's for 18+ audiences but based on my experience it is for 16+ with content warnings such as: talks about murder, talks about violence, kidnapping, and attempted violence. This was taken from my experience playing with it. Please be advised, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

It's a game jam so it's quite short, but in that short moment it really gave a chill down my spine. I don't want to spoil the experience much because it's a game jam and it's really limited so the warnings give some of it away, highly recommend to at least try it out as it gives such an immersive feeling!

Visual Novel

This Visual Novel is explicitly for 18+ audiences with content warnings such as: blood, heavy gore, nudity, jumpscares, gaslighting, paranoia, vehicular accidents, and body snatching. ------------------------------------------------

I think the real horror is me psyching myself out. It starts out pretty casual, but I think the switch (which is pretty obvious) starts your train of doubt, at least for me. Not only that, but the sprite for Aster can get creepy and just flash a lot of red alarms for me. The voice actor did an amazing job voicing out the dull voice but for the energetic one it didn't feel all that eneregtic? Yet despite that, they did bring Aster to life very well!

Yandere Survival Horror Visual Novel
Visual Novel

This Visual Novel is explicitly for 18+ audiences with content warnings such as: sexual assault (in Dr. Storm's route), noncon, rape,  sexual content,  gore,  body horror, unsettling themes, flickering lights,  jumpscares,  somno/necrophilia , verbal/physical violence,  stalking,  murder ,  non-consensual use of drugs,  alcohol, and crude language. ------------------------------------------------

I-- I couldn't even last until the first 30 minutes of the visual novel. I thought it would be a slow burn with the shenanigans that happen but no, after lulling you into a false sense of safety it thrusts you into a very dark turn of events. When they say gore-- they really meant gore.

I might do my best to play this again, but man I was absolutely terrified of this visual novel, it might not be a good match for me due to my inability to cope with extreme horror but it's really good... given if you could last to go to the other content of the visual novel.

70s office elevator themed surreal horror/escape room visual novel
Visual Novel

This Visual Novel (2.5D with point and click elements) does not explicitly state it's for 18+ audiences but based on my experience and content warnings it should be around 17+ with content warnings such as: graphic death, blood, gore, violence, body horror, disturbing imagery and audio, eyestrain, flashing/shaky images, and shortly implied family abuse. These were taken directly from the game page. Please be advised, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

... Dear god I was actually terrified playing this game. The first ending I got absolutely terrified the shit out of me and that was ADMITTEDLY the tamest ending I could have possibly gotten. There are so many ways to die here but honestly the exploring the unknown portion of the game and its floors just terrified me and kind of made me a scaredy cat, especially with some of the brutality of the ending.

The mysterious story behind everything intrigues me enough to want to play more but right now I am beyond a doubt terrified, but it's so well-polished with such lively (and annoying) characters that I really want to play a bit more...

Maybe when I've summoned enough courage...

One way or another, he's going to get you.
Visual Novel

This Visual Novel explicitly states it's for 18+ audiences with content warnings such as: scenes of rape/dubious consent, graphic depictions of violence, drug use, and other potentially disturbing content. This was taken directly from the start up screen of the game. Please be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

Honestly, it's a pretty short visual novel with amazing graphics, the art looks phenomenal and the writing isn't as complicated as it is. The scenes with the content warnings are pretty short, and the rape mention is a cut to black with just a text that says that the MC was taken against their will if you choose to resist, if you choose to not you'll get some sexy writing and then cut to how Ciel is deranged and forced MC to go to his side.

Either way, it's a pretty subtle thing and even when the yandere craze hits, it focuses on how helpless MC is which is just a sad read, recommended to just have a short yandere nonsense read tbh.

Death by fire means born of fire.
Visual Novel

This Visual Novel states that the Demo Version is SFW however subsequent updates will be 18+. The Demo Version contains content warnings such as: stalking, off-screen murder, implied torture, kidnapping, and small blood. These were taken from my experience with the game. Please be advised, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

My god, I played this for the LI who looks like Scaramouche/Wanderer from Genshin Impact and I stayed for the interesting story there is. So far, we don't know much about what happened to either MC or Arson (LI) but we can glean a few things. With Arson, it's obvious to see what happened to him, however MC doesn't make note about the accident, as if them having amnesia isn't a big factor of their life.

Through the Tumblr post of the developer, we do learn that they have hinted that the reason MC might not be so concerned about the accident and their amnesia is due to someone but as of now we don't know. We do know that a housefire happened which disfigured Arson (based on his mask) and caused him a lot of trauma while MC gained amnesia (maybe from the lack of oxygen due to the fumes or being hit in the head by the debris). Aside from that, it's all a mystery~

Visual Novel

This Visual Novel explicitly states it's for 18+ audiences with content warnings such as: Cannibalism, Red Rooms, murder, body horror, disturbing art, stalking, gore, and death. Most of these were taken from my gameplay of the visual novel. Please be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

Remember the last entry where I said that MC really didn't have any happy endings? Well this one one ups it by giving MC a false sense of security because while MC doesn't die in any endings, they sure as hell are gonna wish they died.

There are 4 endings, and all endings have the same kind of formula where MC is kidnapped by Dead Meat, a mysterious kidnapper who kidnaps victim to use for his live streaming of the Red Room in the dark web. But in each variation, I think they affect the sanity levels of MC since there is only one ending where both of MC's closest friends don't get fucked up. But that ending is where we get a bit of clues that Dead Meat specifically targeted MC for some unknown reason.

Another thing to note is to never mess with the dark web no matter how much you think you can side step all the bullshit. If you ain't gonna commit to the paranoia, horror, and addiction-- Just don't do it.

Someone's at your door.
Visual Novel

This Visual Novel explicitly states it's for 18+ audiences with content warnings such as: Mild flashing, Stalking, and Gaslighting or Manipulation.  These were taken directly from the game page. Please be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

This is a really well-polished demo and I have to say, if the tumblr and the start up screen for Lurking for Love didn't explicitly show that Jacob was the yandere, you may have not known since Jacob would be able to deflect some of the MC's questions with more reasonable excuses. Though I did play the oblivious MC route, there are some great little excuses Jacob uses though some of them are pretty paper thin.

Regardless of that, the art is the right amount of good and creepy looking which complements the background and the music choice. The story is pretty engaging and easy to get sucked in, especially with how it feels "normal" over all but there are those snippets that forces you to think that shit isn't all that you see.

Very much enjoyed it despite getting my heart palpitating in fear at the end of the demo!

Cute tapeworm horror visual novel
Visual Novel

This Visual Novel doesn't specifically state whether or not it's for 18+ audiences but based on my experience it is for 18+ with content warnings such as: cult themes, gore, parasites, grotesque sounds, violence, depictions of sickness, blood, body horror, and death. This was taken from my experience with it. Please be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

Alright so first off. It's very kinda gross because of the themes of parasites, gore, and the art does not hold back on it. The sounds are also used quite strategically to enhance the uncomfortableness of the situation.

Despite looking pastel and cute, the story is downright insidious especially with how plausible it can happen (cult shenanigans and whatnot). There really is no way out of it and you can't help but feel awful for Pudding (our MC) for going through with this bullshit.

It's also pretty easy to get the endings so you won't have a hard time with it. The hard time is having to choose which one you think is "good"...

This Interactive Fiction is intended for 18+ audiences with content warnings such as: sexual assault (including upon the main character), gory depiction of murder and dead bodies, domestic abuse, psychological trauma, allusions to child abuse, consensual sex scenes, and other content warnings within the chapters which will specify. These were taken directly from the start up screen of the game. Please be advised, only play when you're the intended age, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

Despite it only having a prologue and a chapter one I found this very interesting! I love the build up of the story and its progression, not only that but I like how we don't just focus on the MC but we also see the other lives of other characters (though, so far it was the victim).

The way the story was set up is quite intriguing, and you become interested in the mystery surrounding MC and their family. And, admittedly, it is quite novel for me to play a serial killer MC and not just a Detective or Bystander MC so I found it very much interesting. Not only that, but as you read through the LIs that will come, you become interested how their stories intertwine with MC and just how dark it can be, especially when MC can be as cold and cruel of a monster as we can make them out to be.

But for me, I was going for the morally twisted and trapped MC. I genuinely can't wait to learn more about MC's story more than the rest of the characters, and I can't help but look forward to the plot's progression and what karma will bring to MC.

HIS LOVE IS ETERNAL. HIS LIGHT IS ETERNAL.
Interactive Fiction

This Visual Novel doesn't specifically state whether or not it's for 18+ audiences but based on the content warnings I can say it's somewhat for 16+ with content warnings such as:  death, cults, nonsexual nudity, abuse, and descriptions of body horror and gore. Please be advised, and play at your own risk.

------------------------------------------------

Dude, this is intense in writing. You can really feel the emotions well up in you as you progress through the plot. The worldbuilding here is subtle yet insane, really pulls you in the atmopshere and how twisted the world is. I'd be very curious regarding the actual cult itself and wanting to explore more with our MC, Death, especially with how ironic their name suggests.

There's an interesting plot going on here, especially with how connected it is to another series the developer is working on and I love how it blends together. Not only that but each character design for teh Major Arcana is seriously good and unique from one another which helps to break the monotony of everything else.

It can get pretty intense especially in the Endings, but visually there is no graphic violence, it can only be found in the text so goodluck with that!

A twisted yandere romance with a pair of poly LIs.

------------------------------------------------

I am devastated I cannot center that line break. This is sad boi hours--

Anyway, focusing on the visual novel itself-- It's a seriously great visual novel. It doesn't have visceral disturbing images but the way the narration describes the abominations and the atrocities that have been done to other people, MC, and even to the LIs. The amount of gray morality there is in this game is wonderful and you begin to wonder if the LIs are as bad as everyone makes them to be (yes, but only if you appeal to them so they become more lenient to you).

I just love the worldbuilding and the story telling in this is just superb, funky lil thing! I love how we get to see more of it and the history of it, honestly it's more interesting than the actual world we live in :')

I'd recommend it but you'd have to tread cautiously with it, I didn't choose the bad options because I want to live but either way, read through the content and trigger warnings to prepare yourself for what is to come.

do you promise to help me out and love me forever~? ♡

GODDAMMIT I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT BUT I KEEP GETTING COCKBLOCKED BY THE OBSESSION ENDING WHERE NICO TURNS FULL YANDERE.

This is what I get for consistently playing yandere visual novels. Something in my aura is basically alerting nearby yanderes of my status, that and I just keep enabling this fucker.

Listen-- LISTEN HE REALLY NEEDS LOVE, AFFECTION, CARE, AND LOVE. AND I AM HERE, I AM A FOUNTAIN OF IT. That and he cutie boi.

But jokes aside, it's a really good visual novel that has a good story to it, a depressing story that's true, but a good story nonetheless. Not only that, but Nico's reaction to the situation he's in and the destructive methods he uses are actually understandable if not painful to us. His character reminds me of so many people I know and are aware of, and the fact that these issues stem deeply within him just-- It tugs a heart! ... That may also be another reason why I keep getting the Obsession Ending since I keep indulging him but also trying to stay firm...

It also is pretty easy to replay again and again, especially when it's so easy to get a bad ending, at least for me. Highly recommend to play it, but do be mindful of the warnings as Nico does not hold back about the shit he feels and thinks about.

Man, this was a doozy. I have felt very unnerved, uncomfortable, and terrified playing through this. One of its main points is the voice acting, the voice acting for the Narrator is terrifyingly amazing and impressive. The way he speaks sounds unnerving and the mock, swears, laughter, and everything is very off-putting and makes you paranoid.

Not only that, but the entire situation is beyond unfair for Charles and you watch as he spirals and being pushed to this point all while being trapped constantly being verbally and emotionally abused, as well as being trapped with the Narrator who seems to have an unhealthy attachment towards Charles and swings between adoring him for all the wrong reason to demeaning and mocking him.

It's all highly impressive, adore it! But I do say to play it downloaded instead of the browser since I had trouble with it.

As of now, it's a short demo that serves as a brief introduction not only to the LIs but to our MC also. I like the MC here despite them being a nervous trainwreck, I feel as though this kind of MC complements the different LIs as they tie to one another being cohesive.

Since it's a short demo, there's not much horror aspect other than a brief stalking(?) scene and reported sightings of multiple crimes occuring. But since it's pretty evident that the rating of this visual novel is going to happen, I put it here for the time being.
