Do you make a lot of pages on Itch.io? Are you looking for an easier way to keep track of all of the dimensions for the images for your pages? Do you use the Affinity suite of design software?
Having read a whole stack of books on marketing, and then boiled them down to what struck me as the essentials, I decided to format those essentials for future reference and to save others the same work.
This is a quarter fold zine explaining simple notation, odds, and uses for the various polyhedral dice common to RPGs (role-playing games). I packed as much in as I could while keeping it straightforward and useful. This would make a nice stocking stuffer for any gamer. Despite its "basic" approach, some of the tables are quite useful - such as the table showing the odds of a d20 vs. a target number with Advantage and Disadvantage.

a font made of lettering from 1920s halloween cards. doesn't include numbers, because i couldn't find any cards with numbers on them. does include alternate variations for each letter & some fun decorative flourishes (mapped to the numbers and some punctuation symbols). might not look great at large sizes, because by the time i realized the resolution on the halloween card images i was grabbing letters from was pitifully small, i didn't feel like going back and redoing all of them. they won't be blurry or anything, but they might be a little more noticeably wobbly the bigger it gets. maybe you like that vibe, though. i don't know your life.
When drawing, texturing or just mocking about in Indesign I often take a screenshot, try to scale it and reframe it in Photoshop to make adjustments. It's a horribly inprecise way of doing things – and sometimes requires a bit back and forth.
So, I made this script for Indesign which will export a png in a subfolder called screenshots (which will be created in your Indesign-projects folder). That you can then place (File -> Place Linked) in Photoshop for a perfect fit.
Ever look at one of those adorable 8 page zines made out of a single sheet of paper and thought "gosh, I wanna make some of those!"
The secret to great layout is great typography. The problem? Finding the right type is like delving into a mega-dungeon. Find your perfect paragraph font, size, and leading in just a few clicks. With this template, you can skip to the fine-tuning phase of your search. Just pick your typeface, plug it in, and get 48 size and leading combinations to compare, contrast, and tweak.
This tool is compatible with Adobe InDesign and Affinity Publisher 1 & 2. (Publisher 1 can use the .idml file.)
Never draw another imprecise little box again. With these thumbnail sheets, you can print the exact dimensions of your favorite books, from the ISO 216 A-Series to the lesser-known transitional PA5.
Thumbnail sketching, sometimes called "flat planning," is a crucial step in the design process. Save your workflow, cut your timeline, and start sketching your next rpg zine. It's easier than it looks.
A bunch of letters and words cut out of newspapers and magazines.
Includes 296 letters and 58 words as .png images with transparent backgrounds.
Use them in whatever you want, commercial or personal.
Files for each letter are numbered so they can be imported as a frame sequence into video editing software if you want to make boiling text like in the example gifs.
This is a simple, but hopefully effective, Affinity Publisher template for the fantastic Lasers & Feelings by John Harper. I've found that sometimes templates and worksheets can really help me kickstart my brain. I've tried to leave this barebones while also including some pushes in the right direction.
This is the basic project structure we use when starting a new game. No frills, just the raw tools and setup we use ourselves.
We use Google Drive and Affinity software for all our design work, and that's what this structure is set up for. However, we've included a .pdf exports of our .afpub files, so they're more compatible with software like InDesign and other layout software.
Arrange multi-page PDF files into a printable zine layout!
This guide has everything you need to get started on the wonderful world of digital zine making! I highly recommend all artists to try this. I have had huge success with my zines over the last two years and used them to supplement my income significantly. You can, too!
IMPORTANT: these mockups are made for the V2 of the Affinity Suite, they won’t work if you try to open them with the V1.
Each file includes two top views of a trifold pamphlet: its cover and its interior.
Make your very own Alternate Setting for the TTRPG Wickedness by M Veselak. If you're interested in seeing more wickedness third party content, check out my Solarpunk Alt Setting! If you end up making a setting, or anything else, for Wickedness, I would love to hear about it!
I've been making zines for years now, and during that time I've generally had to figure out how to make more complex zines on my own, as almost all of the resources and templates that are freely available are for simple mini zines. After making a bunch of templates for Affinity Publisher for more complex zine layouts, I heard from enough people who can't afford the Affinity Suite that I decided to make a bunch more templates for the free alternative desktop publishing program Scribus.
IMPORTANT: these mockups are made for the V2 of the Affinity Suite, they won’t work if you try to open them with the V1.
Each file includes two top views of a booklet: its cover and a spread.
Just what it says on the tin. This will be a collection of templates that I've made to use with Canva. When I first started using Canva I couldn't find any TTRPG templates, so I wanted to share what I could to hopefully make it easier for other up-and-coming designers!
StimuWrite is a companion writing app for people who are neurodivergent, addicted to social media notifications, or would benefit from extra stimulation and feedback when they draft and take notes. While you write, StimuWrite provides visual feedback in the form of a progress bar and emoji that evolve as you hit your word count milestones. If the enviroment is still too calm for you to focus, you can add a video background to simulate being in a cafe or floating in space.
It's a collection of almost 200 fonts which are all licensed in a way that lets anyone use them in projects, most with no strings attached. Some of these fonts are usually distributed without license information, so I've added that where relevant, taking it from the author's website and packaging it to travel with the font.
