stuff I really like!

romance for FIST ttrpg

A really simple but really effective little system. I'm a huge fan of it; while clearly designed for FIST, it'd slot pretty neatly into just about any system you'd want it to.

TAROT CARDS. PHANTOMS. SACRED TRUTHS. SELFHOOD. FRIENDSHIP. KICKASS SOUL BATTLES.

finally got to play this and can confirm directly; one of the best ttrpgs ever written. its so good. also Listen To Eidolon Playtest.

A spatial horror TTRPG about Austin Powers getting trapped in a haunted house

the mechanics are extremely simple but. sometimes you read a title and laugh so hard someone checks to see if you're alive.

A RED WET HEAVEN SLUMBERS FITFUL UNDER THE CITY OF SPIRE

straight up my favorite ttrpg. every single class is so fucked up in a delightful way. This entire game is about absolutely ruining your character, body mind and soul. all the locations are so strange and beautiful and horrifying, and the best you can hope for is to die in a way that you accept (like, say, summoning the train you worship to run you over and every other nearby motherfucker you hate.)

a comic game of feudal intrigue

this game is so fucking funny. It absolutely NAILS the tone and satire it's going for. Next time I can wrangle a group, we're playing this for sure.

an art-zine-essay on the pre- and the post-post-apocalypse

yeah. yeah...

Gay disaster mech pilots killing fascists, Season 2
Visual Novel

it's so good. it's so fucking good. can't wait for BRIGHTFALL.

Find your brother. Bury your brother.

holy shit

EDIT: ok writing more on this because just "holy shit" doesn't do it much justice. Antigone has been one of my favorite plays, hell, favorite stories, since i read it. and this is just a perfect little adaptation. the writing's sharp, the little twists on characters are clever, and that...that final segment. god.

Twentieth-century Cyberpunk
Adventure
Pyre
$19.99
Pyre is a party-based RPG from the creators of Bastion and Transistor.
Role Playing

Typically i prefer to add lesser-known stuff to this list, but....c'mon. It's the best Supergiant game by a massive margin, and they're already batting pretty high on average. If you've never played a Supergiant game or only played Hades, you owe it to yourself to give Pyre a shot.

A game of archetypal creation
A 3-page TTRPG about being Randy Johnson & struggling against Fate
A world-building game about places over time
a gmless rpg about revolution and community in the capitalist hell of the underworld.
Grow a fractal forest to reach the sun.
Platformer

Simple, but soothing, and just complex enough to be interesting.

It's the end of an era. It's the same era we've always been in. We're making something new. We're making the same mistakes as last time. We've never been like this before. We've always been like this.

Even the most powerful monsters have hearts. Unleash your destruction and reveal your deepest emotions.

theres a lot of cool shit here that i could say about the mechanics but instead im just gonna say the art on pages 224 and 230 are Extremely Fucking Gender

Adventure

One of the best games ever made.

Five zines of microgenre recommendations

I did, in fact, like these. Mystery Show is one of my favorite things ever, and I'm so overjoyed this zine introduced me to it. All the other reccomendations are great too (The Stuff is SO fun, and I don't think I'll stop thinking about Die ever.)

Build a new world in the ruins of the future.

LOVE a game where you play entire factions AND individual characters, while not getting so complicted it becomes unfun to play.

THE NEW SUPER COOL OFFICIAL (NOT REALLY) UNDERTALE REAL SEQUEL
Role Playing

I could not possibly explain to you what happens in this game. Just play it. touhou knowledge encouraged but not neccesary.

For what it’s worth, you made the right choice.

holy shit

Murder mystery courtroom drama set on an interplanetary spacecraft.
Adventure

An excellent little sci-fi murder mystery. Genuinely very funny as well!

Divine horror game show! Win big AND die trying!
Survival

Play the game! Play The Game! Stay With Us :)

Solve murders as a digital exorcist.
Simulation

Fun mystery game with unique and cool mechanics based on comparing testimonies, and an amazing setting. I look forward to a possible sequel.

a simple ttrpg about the magical disaster of trans young adulthood

The game is tender and sweet and yet still melancholic in ways. It really cuts to the heart, and I hope someday I can play it.

A cyberpunk TTRPG about psychics and identity

This game kicks ass. I love picking two playbooks, and the constant change and evolution of characters is extremely my shit. Also, the setting is *so cool*

we breathe life into this city together

One of my favorite world building games, maybe even my top one. The true names took a bit to handle, but this was both easy to teach to a group new to ttrpgs and created a wild and wonderful setting for our Masks game. We will never forgive or forget the driver of Rowdy Rocks Rolling Discocade for what he has done to The Biggest Boy restaurant megaplex.
