https://itch.io/t/2946934/mosaic-daily-a-casual-mosaic-strict-ttrpg-jamMOSAIC Daily: A casual MOSAIC Strict TTRPG Jamhttps://itch.io/t/2946934/mosaic-daily-a-casual-mosaic-strict-ttrpg-jamMon, 26 Jun 2023 22:48:26 GMTMon, 26 Jun 2023 22:48:26 GMTMon, 26 Jun 2023 22:48:26 GMTHey all, I'm running a casual TTRPG jam called MOSAIC Daily

The jam includes 30 prompts for creating a short, MOSAIC Strict compliant TTRPG supplement. I'm challenging myself to make and publish one every day (or as close to it as possible). As it's a casual jam you're welcome to all, some, one, or none at all. You an also skip any prompts you're not interested in or do them in any order. The main purpose of the jam is an exercise in creative restraints as well as expanding the overall availability of modular, system-independent rpg content in the wild.

If you're interested in participating or just checking out what gets made be sure to check it out!

I'll personally be releasing all of my submissions for free under CC-BY, but since it isn't ranked you're free to submit them however you wish.

I will only be disqualifying submissions that intentionally ignore the MOSAIC Strict requirement (or are just blatant spam), and if enough people show interest I'd be willing to extend the submission deadline to accommodate late joins.

---

What is MOSAIC Strict?

For a full primer on the MOSAIC Strict design philosophy, make sure to read the blog article Nothing at the Bottom: MOSAIC Strict RPG Design by Michael Prescott. It's an approach to creating modular rules text that can be slotted into most rules-lite systems or combined to create a uniquely custom experience. To briefly summarize, the acronym MOSAIC stands for:

  • Modular: Any game text that explicitly claims to bean entire, complete RPG is not Mosaic Strict.
  • Optional: Any game text that describes itself as necessary for play is not Mosaic Strict.
  • Short: Mosaic Strict game texts are no more than 1500 words.
  • Attested: Mosaic Strict texts say they are Mosaic Strict.
  • Independent: Mosaic Strict texts do not refer to the mechanics or quantified state in any other game text.
  • Coreless: assume nothing else is in use beyond free-form play

This Island Comes with me

is a beginner-friendly Jam for making and publishing (TT)RPG & Storytelling Games (including journaling)

For whom is this for?

This Island Comes with me Jam is meant for everyone who wants to participate! This can be your first jam, your 1000th jam, or your last jam. You can be a beginning jammer or a veteran jammer. You can be a starting writer, artist, game designer, or a person who has published this and that here and there. I really honestly do mean, everyone who wants to participate, can participate!

For what kind of material is this?

This Island Comes with me Jam is a jam meant for making and publishing (Tabletop) Role-Playing Games & Storytelling Games, including journaling games. So your submission(s) can be in many formats.

Your submission can be in any digital form that Itch.io supports. It can be a tabletop RPG-styled digital game or it can be a concrete tabletop roleplaying game played with pen & paper. Your game can be a storytelling game in your preferred format. Your game can be a card game or a board game. It can be a dice game. It can be Live Action Role-Playing rules or LARP adventure. Or it can be a web-based story and adventure game. Your game can be in a fanzine format. Your game can be a journaling game. Your game can be a solo game, a 1+1 game, a 1 vs 1, or a group-play game.

It doesn't even have to be a game per se. It can be an adventure supplement or a module for an existing game. Or it can be an art pack for gamers or game publishers. The material you submit to this jam can be a thematical guide for LARPing. Or your music soundtrack for use in playing sessions.

Your material can be a Work In Progress and You can update it while jamming, or even after the jam. Your submitted material can be a first draft or an early sketch. It can be a test file or a playtest. Or a DEMO. It can be an SRD.

Is there a certain theme and how can I interpret it?

This Island Comes with me Jam carries proudly its theme, openly, on its name. The theme is: "This Island Comes with me". Or if You like the theme in a briefer form: "This Island". Or just simply "The Island".  It can be a real place where You have been and have nice memories. Or it can be a fantasy island that exists only in your imagination. Or in a shared experience at a gaming table. Or something in between, or some kind of a mix of all those.  Or maybe it is not exactly an island at all. The Island is actually some kind of haven. A good fond memory that soothes You. A portal in form of a painting of an island.  So the Island can be many things. It can be a literal island. Or it can be a metaphorical island. Or some kind of figurative concept.  After all, it is Your Island. The Island that comes with You. So let Your Island be Anything You want or need it to be. Take it, use it, mold it and interpret it as You want.

Why does this Jam exist?

Because I strongly feel there is a real need for it. The whole point of this jam is to be able to offer a theme (check it above), time (check below), and a virtual place (Itch.io and this Jam) to get myself & I, You and yourself, and us all in this jam,  to do, finish and publish something... like anything. :-) And to have fun while at it.

Your material can be fun, quirky, perky, sad, glorious,  weird, odd, cool, witty, clip & paste, click & paste, totally full of outsider and misfit experiences, it can be Queer, can be LbthgiqaT+, can be about AD(H)D experiences, can be about Autistic spectrum, can be about living with disabilities, on poverty, on mental health, on health issues, on Love and Loving, on Loneliness, On Discrimination... or a fantastic fantasy trip about trans wizard lizard mutant kids on a field trip of their lives. So all I am saying is don't let your or anyone else's imagination be a restrictive element. Let your mind, fantasies, thoughts, imaginations, and everything move, jump, run, fly and crawl FREE!

As a game jam curator, I am very open to many kinds of submissions. If You feel, at all, that your material is meant for the jam, then it is and I suggest You submit it. And then tell about it to us, your fellow jammers. I always love to hear and read about the thoughts and ideas of other people who make games and gaming material.

When can I send my submission for the jam?

Starting time for your submissions 2023-02-03 18:00:00

Ending time, the Deadline for submitting your submissions is 2023-03-08 at 13:00:00

Every element of a video game is crucial and narrative design is far too overlooked. Today, on @itchio I couldn't find ONE featured narrative design jam in the past 24 hours and that is scary! #narrativejam Let's get writing 🕹️✍️ Sharing, participating, and collaborating in these narrative design jams will make the video game industry a more accessible place for entry-level artists and young students!

This jam is short (unranked) just to get people participating with minimal requirements. Then, when the community grows I'll rank submissions and extended deadlines.  It's best to think of this as a community and social event than an intense hack-a-thon; I may create a week-long one.

Maybe you've seen the astronomical number of backgrounds and other fan content for it, check this out.

Why would you want to put backgrounds on a card?

1. Troika! defaults to using d6′s for everything, so random character gen usually involves backgrounds in groups of six, but sometimes getting to some multiple of six is struggle. Enter using a deck of cards.

2. You can select which backgrounds, if they are on cards, you want to include in your game without needing to make an index and/or copying them all into a whole new document.

3. You can weight the commonality of backgrounds by putting more or less of certain ones in the deck.

4. You can eliminate backgrounds as they are chosen by pulling them from the deck once drawn. No more rerolling.

We are The Icehouse, a small online collective of indie creators. To celebrate our 5 years of existence we have prepared The Icehouse Jam 2019, where you are invited to create a game in 3 weeks in November.

The theme will be Myths and Legends. An additional secret theme will be revealed on the first day of the Jam on November 8.

There are several Prizes to win and we have gathered a nice Jury, composed of talented creators who will play and vote for your games, with guest star Judges such as Jan Kavan (CBE Software - Someday You'll Return), Atelier Sentô (Onibi, The Coral Cave), and more.

Welcome to Jam For The Breakfast Of Tomorrow, an RPG Maker based contest!

The goal is to make a game using any RPG Maker engine. The catch is that every entry must use the same premise:

The MC needs to get their breakfast. However, the world seems to be against this idea.

Minor inconveniences pile up one after the other until it escalates to an eventual war.

But the MC has an undying will. They will not stop due to their mentor's advice:

"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day"

Contest is currently running from right now till September 2, 2019 MIDNIGHT Central Time] !

The winners of this contest, depending on their placing, will receive copies of  RPG Maker VX, RPG Maker XP, RPG Maker 2003, and RPG Maker 2000 on Steam!

While there are prizes to be claimed, know that every effort for all submissions will always output joy, no matter the outcome!

1st Place: Wins one code to receive RPG Maker VX on Steam

2nd Place: Wins one code to receive RPG Maker XP on Steam

3rd Place: Wins one code to receive RPG Maker 2003 on Steam

Community's Pick: Wins one code to Receive RPG Maker 2000 on Steam

Places 1st to 3rd will be chosen by a team of judges who will grade and vote each entry after the contest's end. Community's Pick will be decided by the number of votes given to the entries after the contest's end. The submission with the highest amount of votes by the end of the voting period will be crowned the Community's Pick.

There aren't very many rules, but the most important one is you absolutely must use Libre Baskerville for all text.

Rolling Waves is a game jam all about creating mini-ttrpgs based on the sea! This can be anything from swashbuckling pirates to mysterious undersea life to exploring the extraterrestrial oceans on Titan - anything you can think of,  as long as it involves a huge body of open water.

Seems like the ball is still rolling on those with March of the Wizards, Short Rest, Roll to Craft and Short and Easy. How was it participating in a jam, for those that did?

I posted my first game on itch for the #sadmechjam and It was a huge confidence boost to actually get direct sales for something I wrote. My wizard game idea went through about 20 iterations before finally resolving a day too late. I'm still working on it though, and I'm in love with the idea and grateful to the jam hosts for evocative prompts that were clearly inspiring for a lot of designers. I'm really curious about what kind of events we'll see in the future, since game contests/jams are a way a lot of designers get their start. Maybe existing design events could find a home here as well...

This is very early but I wanted to start getting the word around (and give myself an excuse not to back out), but on April 1st submissions will open for my game jam, Me, Myself, And My RPG.
This game jam will be dedicated exclusively towards the creation of Single Player tabletop and larp experiences.

The guidelines, which you can also find in the link below are:

  • The game must be an analogue rpg (tabletop, larp).
  • The game MUST be playable with only one player. The PRIMARY EXPERIENCE of your game must be single player. Do not make a normal game and scramble for 1-player compatibility.
  • If the game is still playable by more than one player, that's fine! As long as it doesn't diminish the single player experience.
  • No games that encourage hatred or discrimination of marginalized group (No Homophobia, Sexism, Racism, Ableism, etc). #UseSomeCommonGoddamnSense.  NOTE: Games that respectfully explore or tackle these themes are exceptions.

As the jam doesn't open for about two weeks, I'm happy to take any suggestions or questions people might have.

This means no original games, but if I see enough interest in that I might run a follow-up jam for monster-based original games. The jam will run from March 25th to April 8th.

The guidelines, which you can also find in the link below are:

  • Your submission must be a supplement (i.e. not an original game) to an existing ttrpg system (D&D, Dungeon World, Pathfinder, etc.)
  • Some examples of supplements include adventuresbestiariescharacter options, and more
  • The supplements must focus on monsters, whatever that means to you
  • No hateful content (sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, etc.), but respectfully exploring or tackling these themes are acceptable

The jam opens in a week. This is my first jam, so if anyone has any advice or suggestions I'm open to hearing it.

A collection of wrestling LARPs is something I've held onto for a very long time; originally, I planned to try and make an anthology, but recently realized a game jam would be a better fit for the project.

Very excited to see what people come up with for the jam.

I have been thinking of hosting a game jam on mythology and folklore. There seem to be a number of mythology jams for video games, but not tabletop ones. I am just putting it out there to see if anyone is interested, or perhaps want to co-host with me.

Arthur

Update: Gonna call it Folklore and Mythology Jam so that I can use #FolkloreJam to differentiate from the existing video game jams.  I am trying to avoid doing it at the same time as other tabletop game jams, but it's probably inevitable. (Don't get me wrong, it's a good thing to see so many tabletop game jams.) AFAIK, there's no game jam taking place in late April at the moment. (More and more jams pop up while I am planning this jam. Oh well.)

Update: I have set the jam up. It's pretty barebones at the moment. Feel free to let me know if something should be added to it, or if you want to co-host!

I only encourage you to adhere to the following guidelines

  • Try to be as kind as possible both to your own work and others'!
  • No intentional hate speech or bigotry of any sort; it will not be tolerated
  • The game need not be free; feel free to charge if you want!
  • I encourage you to have a text-only version of your game in basic formatting only
  • Micro-RPGs are the main thing we hope to see from this! Something that can be finished in one sitting or only a few more sittings if really need be. Check out games like Lasers with Feelings, Honey Heist, and Lady Blackbird for inspiration!
  • Other kinds of tabletop games are welcome as well, however!
  • Try to ground your game in the now prevalent superhero genre as much as possible!

He had a femoral head ostectomy on his back left leg. This has been a sort of ongoing thing since I got him and I knew it had to be done, I was dreading both putting him through that and having to pay for it, and as I lamented over twitter, the dog game jam idea came about from my friend and jam co-host Aaron King.

dog jam 2k19 image

SO here we are: Dog Jam 2k19! This is for games inspired by, involving, derivative of, written for, designed by, etc DOGS. Any way that you choose to involve dogs in your game is welcome. This jam is currently just for analog games (rpgs, larps, card, board games) but I'm very open to widening that for digital games if there was interest.

As many other jams have stated, this jam is welcome to all but will not tolerate any instances of racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, or other offensive material. Because of the dog subject matter at hand, this is also being expanded to exclude animal abuse or neglect.

As mentioned earlier, my dog's surgery was expensive, so I'll be charging for my game and hope to make a small chunk of that back. In the unlikely event that I exceed his hospital bill, the remaining proceeds will go to a dog rescue in my city called Michele's Rescue. Contributors are encouraged (though not mandated) to consider giving a portion of the revenue their games make to similar local animal charities.

This jam is a month away but as so many are being announced lately, I wanted to make interested parties aware earlier so they have time to contribute or schedule out other jams they might want to take part in. Hope you'll join us for the dog party!
