I know that AI is pretty controversial, but I've been using Gemini to help build my game. I get the programming and stuff, I understand the code. It's just faster and easier for me to do it this way. And for the most part it works, until it doesn't. It's probably a lot harder because I'm using Gemini too. I keep crashing the poor bot. It keeps insisting its answers are the right ones. It's reading my debug logs out of order. It's a mess.
I've got a good enough handle on everything that I can easily look over and make corrections to the code it gives me. But there are some more complex ideas that it tries to implement that I'm having trouble with. So, right now I'm trying to implement a simple wait screen (you know, the one that hides all the background stuff you want to happen when you transition from one scene to another) and it's just not going well. The concept started out pretty simple, but the implementation just isn't working.
The damned robot just keeps iterating upon it's own changes, suggesting I correct mistakes it made that I never implemented. It can be really frustrating. To be honest though, I wouldn't have gotten as far as I am if I were doing this on my own. And the fact that I understand this well enough to fight back against the AI's suggestions is good. I am learning, and this really is a lot like finding code in the world and tailoring it to suit my needs.
Well, at least I've mostly got this scene transition thing working. At least it seems to be, who knows what will happen the next time I try to use it. But that's a problem for future me.
