Summer for a Better World

Summer for a Better World

Hey Builders

Great news! We’ve decided to extend the Build a Better World RPG Jam until the end of the summer!

New deadline: September 22, 2025

Why the extension? We genuinely feel the need for a brighter space where we can connect, build community, share ideas, and foster creativity safely.

Plus, processing everything happening around us right now takes a lot of energy. I don’t know about you, but I could definitely use more time to brew my game ideas!

Here’s what I’ll be working on:

  • I’m still fiddling with a GM-less mythology/history generator.
  • I’m collaborating on a collective zine about architecture/urbanism with an IRL group (my letterpress workshop).
  • I’ll keep experimenting with web-to-print techniques. Ultimately, I’d love to put out some ready-to-use templates for myself and others. I might even run an intro workshop on this later!
  • Lastly, I’m thinking about how to communicate actionable info/ideas about resilience and protest through an RPG.

I’m mostly leaning into community-oriented games and projects, and I can use three more months for all of this!

I’d love to hear what you’re working on! And if you’re interested in collaborating with any of the little experiments I’m working on.

Let me know.

Cheers

Iko

Hi Iko!

First of all, thank you for organizing this! Second, I would love to collaborate! I've been working at the intersects of social justice and design for the past 15 years and that is informed by my 2 decades + as a community organizer and activist (I started young lol). So thinking about these things and doing a lot of it is my day-to-day.

The idea that I want to play things that imagine what radical freedom looks like and also reflects the truths of our history as humans is the reason why I started my latest project, Echoes of the Veil.

Echoes of the Veil (EotV) is a fast, cinematic TTRPG hack of CBR+PNK (Forged in the Dark system) where players take on the roles of cyberpunk rebels and mystics trying to survive (and rewire) a world ruled by corporate greed.  EotV brings Weird Magik to the forefront and is inspired by and rooted in revolutionary movements and is a game for a Game Moderator and 2–5 players. What would these revolutionary movements look like in the future? How have centuries of oppressive systems shape them?

I’m very proud to bring a diverse perspective to the cyberpunk genre. Queer, Arab, neurodivergent, immigrant all that good stuff! Illustrated in almost every single page! Let me know what you think  https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thedreamcreative/echoes-of-the-veil-cbr-pnk-expansion-and-worldbuilding?ref=ej4soi

Also reach out anytime to collab at: hello@reverierebels.com

Now that you extended the deadline I'm going to upload another Run!

In community!

Hey thank you for your comment, that’s really exciting, I’ll check your game. Are you a member of the TLB server? If not you could join if you’d like, there’s plenty of great and kind folks there, who are exchanging ideas about design https://discord.com/invite/37XBQVr7eP

Lastly I’m glad to meet an Arab indie RPG designer! I often found MENA designers to be tremendously underrepresented in the indie RPG scene. But that’s maybe just me looking in the wrong places. The scene is so vast and fragmented.

It seems like the invite expired!

Hi Iko! We are very much underrepresented. I don't think my last comment went through but the discord link expired!

Hey, the itch autolink modified the link, should be fixed now

Amazing! Just joined! I'm Raffi, by the way!
