Checking in! (With itch.io stats!)

Time flies when you're (not) having fun!

It's been almost 5 months since I released my prototype, time certainly flies when you're busy with life!
I have made some minor gameplay changes during the prototype release until now, gameplay is slightly faster, movement less sluggish.
But overall, there hasn't been much progress in the technical front for Defenders of Dwaca.

What's going on?

I've had to pause production of the game, as I've ran out of initial capital, so I'm slowly gathering more again to push the game into Early Access! However, the job market has been pretty tough (sad lol), so it's taking a lot longer than I thought to start building a new budget to smooth out the last stages of development.

What happens now?

The good news is that I've been using this time to continue working on the game design! I've been thinking of what can make the game fun with valuable feedback from friends and even from here! (Thanks, Talan!)

I've taken it all into account to evolve the game for Early Access. You can be sure that the final product has a little bit of everyone's feedback that helps shape the game into something awesome!

And now, for something fun:

Stats on itch.io!

I know you people love checking out stats and stuff. So I'd like to share how the game has done since the prototype release:

Let's start off with the meat and potatoes!

In total, for the 4 months the prototype has been up, there's 66 (!!!) views and 12 (!!!!!) downloads! I wasn't expecting much, but seeing so many downloads really made my day.

I am surprised seeing this many views as well, since I didn't put out any ads on itch. It seems the algorithms has taken pity on me lmao.

Getting added into 2 collections is also surprising to me, I'm honestly glad that my idea garnered some interest!

Views

Next, let's look at how many views the Prototype has gotten over the months.

From the above, it looks like there's a spike of views when the prototype was first released in January, I think itch.io most likely pushes new content to the top, which I think is expected. What is interesting is the gradual rise again in the first half of February, I'm not sure what might have caused that. Algorithm things, probably lol.

And the biggest surprise for me was the spike in April. That was a sudden 11 views in a single day... also not sure what might have caused that. Algo stuff again, I guess lol.

Overall, it seems that there's always some views each week, and that's good enough for now.

Downloads

Now for the real interesting stuff!

In February, I've had 1 download AND 1 feedback! (Shoutout again to Talan, I appreciate you!)
This pretty much broke the dry streak from release, but the drought came back again until April.

This time, another massive spike of downloads! Very strange, because it coincides with the 11 views in that same day. It's either Algos, or there's a script running that downloads games to store into some database... internet stuff, I guess? lol.

And last but not least...

Revenue!

Of which there is none lmao

But this isn't what I want at this stage in the game, I'm focusing on making it fun first!

And that's all for the Check In post! This is mainly to let ya guys know that I'm still alive and the project is still moving, but at a glacial pace.

Do hit me up if ya wanna chat or discuss about the above stats!

I'll hopefully get something to show in June!

See you guys in the next one!
