Finishing up

Ominous title, What could it mean? Is this good news? Bad news? Uhh... A bit of both? Also- Happy new year haha. I've had to update this starting line like four times because I kept delaying it!

So what's this about?

Well, I'm going to probably stop posting games here at some point - As well as across my other social medias. In fact, This announcement will likely be crossposted across all my social media platforms. A big choice I've been thinking about making for a while, And one with reasoning I won't be elaborating on asides from personal stuff. But this will likely be the end.

So, When's some point?

Some point is planned to be somewhere in 2025, But one thing I hate is to feel like I'm letting people down. In fact, I already feel a bit like I have by making this post - I mean I've made quite a few promises in my limited time posting which I've yet to fully deliver on... So I've decided to deliver. From my memory, There are seven outstanding promises I've yet to fill.

So... The seven promises?

Okay, Bear with me. I'll be citing a lot of posts in this section - But to sum it up, I'll be going on my redemption arc. In the next paragraph, I'll talk about the promises I made and what I'll do to fix them. I'll also be bouncing about the place. quite a bit, So don't expect these to be fulfilled in any given order.

1 - Ghost Train

575 days ago (at time of writing) - I made this post (Click!) announcing the release date of Jack Went Out as well as making the first of the seven promises. In this post, I announced that Ghost Train would be getting a rework as it was very inefficient and very poorly optimized. So, To redeem myself - I will be fully making Ghost Train's initial vision come to reality by creating the full game. I'll be touching up on some of the existing assets from it's infancy and try to do it justice.

2 - Educational Execution

Then later on, I made this post (Click!) about Educational Execution - A fangame taking in inspiration from Dark Deception and It Steals. This was a school project of mine made on an older version of Unity, But then one day I went around deleting a bunch of my files and since I'd moved over to a newer version of Unity - When I went to revisit Educational Execution, I no longer had the right version. So, To redeem myself for this one - I'll be updating the game to a newer version of Unity as well as finishing off the title screen and ending screen as they're both just... not really that finished.

3 - Evade

But before both of those posts, I made this one (Click!) announcing Evade - My first project. Naturally as with all first projects, This sucked. Although I gotta say, It did good for a first project. In order to hopefully make you all forgive me - I'll be releasing it. But there's one thing. It's not that fun a game... I mean - The points don't even work! So, I'll be doing something interesting. I'll be releasing three versions of the game in one build. The version I submitted as my assignment, No changes. Then I'll have a version with minor changes - Just enough to make the game properly playable and much more fun.  Finally, I'll add a version where the game is improved in all the ways I'd like it to be.

4 - Shackle

Halfway through my promising spree, We'll talk about one of my playthroughs on my YouTube channel (Click!) where I started a series on the game Shackle (Click!) - But I never quite finished the game. In fact, My third part ended with me saying "See You Next Week!" which uh... Yeah that was on August 10th and the next video was on August 21st. If you check your calendars, That was not next week. But- I do have the footage! So guess what I'll be editing? That's right - Parts four and five of Shackle! Yeah... It's five parts long. I think. Maybe even six. We'll see how many episodes it is.

5 - This Deep Under

Sorry - So we're on promise five now. This Deep Under. Yeah, It uhh... Did say it was going to get an update... (Click!) (Click!) (Click!)
And yes, It was entirely necessary to self report myself three times. You can probably guess what the plan for this one is, It's to release the update in the best state possible! This'll include animation improvements, improved environments and bug fixes alongside some more lore.

6 - The Crossover

Six: The Promise. Okay, Sorry - I'm a musical nerd sometimes. I loved Hamilton. Anyway, I then made my most recent promise to which I then delayed the game by "A week or two". It's been two months. In this post (Click!) I explained that the game felt like This Deep Under Minus Edition, Which for a game that was a crossover with one of my friends - I didn't want. This possibly is one of the games out of every single game on this list that I feel like I need to redeem myself the most for. Mostly because as well, I know the potential of it and I also would hate to disappoint our beloved Spacepiano (Click!). So, Like the others in this list - My aim will be to make this game exactly as I see it being in my mind. To make it the crossover that I know it deserves to be and not just a really bad This Deep Under clone.

7 - Murmur

Finally, This one's not a promise I made publicly, But it's still a promise. You see, I made this awesome little game you could play on your computer called Murmur. It was a pretty simple game but it drove one of my friends mad. So, I'll be publishing this one too - Fully finished. No checkpoints. I did mention this game once (Click!) at the end of the post - But I never really truly announced it. Also umm, Here's the image of my friend going through withdrawal or something.

What are the ethics of subjecting yourself to deliver on all these promises instead of just apologizing? Why aren't you just slowly creeping up on them one at a time without announcing it? Is it really worth forcing yourself to work on these games until you either face burnout or go clinically insane? What's wrong with you? Do you need help? ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING TO ME?!

No. I'm not listening to you deranged mind palace me... Stop writing titles that make readers concerned for my mental wellbeing okay? Anyway, That's all for this post folks. My next post will either be a promise being fulfilled - Or an image of my ceiling being painted a fresh brain color...

Oh, And before I finish up I want to address some of my *other* promises that I did make. There's two unaccounted for off the top of my memory. And how should I explain this? Well both of these promises that I did make were projects that I personally feel don't really need to be released to satisfy my horrible promising spree... I mean technically I only really promised myself for Murmur- But I really like Murmur! The others were more announcements never elaborated on. Sons May Cry does function as a game (really badly though) and I almost don't want to try to tackle that specific game for a full rework as I'm not sure how I'd go about it. If anything, I'd probably delete the game to spare any future victim's from Mommy's polygons.

As for the other one, Somniferous. Okay - I love this game. I've actually developed a lot of it already as well as planning multiple segments and making a few of the levels already. I loved the project but I can't help but feel like it doesn't work as a game in the way I want it to. A good way to put it, The game in my head has a bunch of good moments - But wouldn't be a good game. I'd rather publish a good game. To finish this all in 2025 without making more games that I'd have to rectify, I don't want to take on too much. After all, I'm already not allocating much time for each of these promises. I'll be allocating about a month per one of these if that helps - And I'll be doing some gamejams in the meantime.

Thanks for reading this far, And I'll see you soon.

- The Redcoat

TLDR: I'll be stepping away from gamedev- or at least these platforms by the end of 2025. Before I do so, I'll be fulfilling all the promises I've made but not delivered on such as missed games and the like. See you next time.
