Hey everyone! My name’s Andrey. Interestingly, I started out learning Unreal, but here I am now making a game in Unity, working entirely with the help of AI tools like Claude. I wanted to test the new power of neural networks by making a game, which is somewhat familiar territory for me, so I thought I’d give it a go.
At first, I tried to build something in Unreal, mainly to improve my C++ skills and get familiar with Unreal 5. But I ran into so many issues along the way – from setting up proper compatibility with Visual Studio to just figuring out how to control what AI tools like Claude were doing. Also, I should mention, my goal was to create a match-3 game using AI for everything except the interface. Using Unreal was a mistake… maybe not the smartest choice, but I have AI and imagination on my side (and I’m creating a game in a genre that’s been around for 20 years, so why not?).
Eventually, I had to choose between Unity and Godot. Godot was appealing for two reasons: it’s a bit simpler and it’s open-source. Unity, on the other hand, has a stable interface that doesn’t change much (even though Claude has already made me burn out from dealing with some of its quirks). And unlike Godot, Unity isn’t open source, which might actually be a plus since Claude has been trained on its data. With Godot’s frequent updates as an open-source engine, I worried that Claude might not handle it as smoothly. So, I decided on Unity, and so far, I think it was the right call.
This is my first real attempt at game development, so I’d love to connect with others who want to chat about using AI in games – even small ones. At the time of writing, I’ve already built the core gameplay – nothing fancy, just basic match-3 mechanics with super objects created from matches of 3. I’ve got the main menu done and everything underneath it, except the gallery and settings (I'm afraid). So far, everything’s working out, and I’m really happy with it!
If any of this sounds odd, sorry – English isn’t my first language, and I’m putting this together through Google Translate and a bit of AI help to make it more readable. Hope you enjoy reading this, and have a great day with some good coffee!
P.s. yes, I'll imitate HoneyPOP, son
