Built out a decoration system today to start making maps look a little more varied. I already have an "active" POI system that needs more juice but I want to balance map objects you have to interact with and adding in some things that add visual variety to the environment without making maps too busy for gameplay (once it kicks up there's a lot of ships to worry about).
In the case of active POIs, I purposely keep active locations away from the players spawn so you aren't immediately under fire from a local station or spawning on top a jelly hive. The drawback of this is choosing a map called "debris feild" and not seeing a whole lot of debris right away. This should be greatly improved as I've filled in the map generators spaces between possible POI locations with possible deco locations, including the spawn area. I have some other unused sprites like planets for the old planet POIs that can now be repurposed for background decoration, so I'll be able to populate the system a little while I build out more art to fill it in.
