January Happenings + Subclasses! (Print Edition)

We've reached a halfway point for 2024, and with it comes some exciting news for the upcoming Print Edition of the game. Progress on it is underway, and most of the core gameplay systems are fully realized and ready to go.

When I first set out to improve MnM, I pictured a slight format change, editing pass and light improvements to the rules and system. As of now though, it's overgoing a massive overhaul with Strongholds, Epic-Level Allies, Subclasses, Downtime and a number of other features to spice up your game session. Below are a few examples of some of these features!

Subclasses

At its core, MnM is a reimagining of 5th Edition content with OSR rules. One of 5e's greatest assets is its wealth of character customization options such as unique races, classes and subclasses that go far beyond the classic "Fighter, Healer, Magic-User and Thief" core classes for the Original Game. While translating 5E's classes and adding new ones like the Executioner felt thematically appropriate for an OSR game, I still felt they were missing something -- namely subclasses and the option to try put different character "builds," within each class.

Figuring out a system that provides this while staying true to the simplicity and spirit of the OSR was a difficult task, but I'm excited to say I've finally managed something that pulls from the best of both worlds. Note, this system is entirely optional and can be ignored for those of you who enjoy an experience closer to the roots of B/X and other early editions.  Multiclassing is another feature I aim to include, and in its current iteration is heavily inspired by the Subclass rules. However, it may or may not make it into the final game.

Epic-Level Allies

Ever wanted to take your party riding on the back of a golden dragon while you swoop down and vanquish enemy armies? Or lay siege to a lich's tower on the shoulders of a massive treant? High-level players will now be able to recruit powerful allies to accompany them in battle as the threats they face grow bigger and more world-threatening. But what's an endgame without powerful, iconic enemies to fight...?

Nemesis System

You're not the only adventurers out there. Like you there are ordinary folk who set out for glory and fortune, delving dungeons, obtaining magic items and reaching epic levels, complete with their own powerful allies.

But unlike you, they chose the path of evil.

The Nemesis System is a set of optional rules for GMs to generate a party of enemy adventurers who grow and level up in parallel with your players. Like your heroes, they've fought against spectacular odds and possess magic items, incredible skills and their own evil-aligned Epic Level Allies. Give your players the ultimate challenge and build a rogue's gallery for your setting in the process!

Strongholds

The original game's classic feature makes it into MNM. Build your stronghold and establish your presence in the world. Will you amass armies and become a ruling nation? Establish an adventurer's guild of your own? Or create dungeons of your own to secure powerful tressures from the evil forces who desire them?

All this and more will be available for you in the next couple months at most!
