This is an informative post for the Panic Horror Jam rewards and leveling system. 

in this system, we gain "exp" for challenges. For a certain amount of exp gained, we then level up. This has literally no effect on you until the end of the jam. Each of these "Levels" is called  a "Sword." Why? because it's cool and different.
