Can't believe we're almost at the end of the year, and almost a full year of doing these monthly devblogs! Though there's been a lot of ups and downs this year in dealing with unemployment, I'm very happy I've been able to share these monthly updates. They definitely work a lot better for me and is much less intimidating than weekly updates.
Onto the actual update--within October I was able to finish the last bit of backgrounds needed for Barrett's route. Hooray! Here they are all together:
These backgrounds will serve as backdrops where different characters will be hanging out that you'll be able to talk to. The next step will be creating those character icons that will look a little like this:
I also did a bit more implementation into the main build of the game, mostly to migrate some of Barrett's mechanics over to make sure they worked properly with some placeholder assets:
Next month's update will most likely continue being on the art-heavy side. The next step I want to take is build out more UI art (particularly for the town scenes) and do a couple more UI portraits for Sepsis' route. After that, it'll most likely be time to get started on the ending cutscenes--which is very exciting! It's a sign that most of the art for the game is done, and there won't be too much left to put into the final build. I hope to have a few more updates on the build next month as well, along with a summary of what's been accomplished within 2023 and what the priorities will be for 2024.
Until next month and thank you for reading!
Santo
