Now this is something out of the blue that isn't specifically about any of my released games so far, let alone any of my future projects I have in store. But before we get to it, here's a video from a good friend, Code Monkey, who specializes in making Unity tutorials, and other things in the said topic.
Now, what does this have to do with me? I basically use Unity for all of my game development projects, as of the time of writing this blog. The infamous Lights Out clone, and both Strip Junken versions are all #MadeWithUnity. But with these changes in Unity coming into play and my plans to upgrade both the Hub and Editor versions I'm currently using to the latest version and current LTS, I'm starting to think twice about switching game engines or not.If ever I make the switch to, say, Unreal Engine, I'll have to learn C++ just to adapt to the changes. I'm just not sure if C# and C++ are any different or not, despite being both C coding languages. As for Godot, I'm not sure if I'll be used to it as soon as I install it on my computer. There are other game engines I could try besides Unity, like Ren'Py, which I'll have to learn for a bit just to dip my toes into new territory.
Back to my plans: I've said in my latest Strip Junken devlogs that I'm planning to begin developing a new Strip game anytime soon, besides having a prototype already made for the game's mechanic, but that was before this Unity situation sparked. Now, I feel a bit indecisive about whether I should keep using Unity or not or even take a long hiatus for the time being. I also made a fully-complete Rubik's Clock game with Unity but have not yet built it due to the many things I still need to add, like an automatic solver and mobile touch controls, just in case. Lastly, I had plans on rolling out a small update to Strip Junken, which includes an update checker.
To conclude this blog, I would like to say thanks again for your time spent reading it and hope that someday I might regain interest in doing game development with Unity, despite all these changes already taking effect. But in the meantime, I will be doing some blogs to keep you in touch as much as I can. Maybe I could do one talking about the girls of Strip Junken and all that. Again, thanks for reading, and I hope to see you again next time.
