You don’t need to learn to 3D model and script before you can make a game ! Because dot big bang is a social platform as well as a game engine, there is a massive library of art, scripts, games and templates made by other creators that you can use to build your game.
Instead of starting from an empty world, you can remix existing games to start with mechanics, environments, or just to look at other people’s work as an example on how to build. You will get your own copy of the project to modify and inspect however you want!
You can tell a game is remixable if the remix icon appears in the the top left corner. Click this, and you’ll have your own copy of the game saved to your profile!
You can make your own games remixable to others by checking the Remixable box in the Save Options menu.
There are a number of example projects made by the dot big bang dev team specifically for you to remix, to help you build games, mechanics, templates, or just better understand how dbb works! Check out the complete list of examples here!
All the 3D and 2D art in dot big bang is made of voxel objects, like pixel art, but with cubes. You can make art just for yourself, but you can also mark it as shared (other creators can use it, but not remix it) or remixable (other creators copy this to make their own art).
To find all the shared voxel objects you can use, open the Resources panel (click the arrow in the bottom right corner or press Shift+Down Arrow). Change the drop down next to search from This Game to All and you will be able to browse and search the massive selection of usable objects.
Using other voxel objects as a start to making your own is a great way to save time, match scale, and build things in a similar theme.
To find remixable voxel objects:
Templates are a way of saving an entity to transfer between projects and make copies of in your game. You can find a collection of usable templates in the Resources bar in the Game Editor, and also create your own to save there.
However, currently you can’t search for templates made by other creators or share your own templates directly. Instead, you can make your own copies of templates from shared games.
