Yesterday was a wild ride and we appreciate your patience with this update moving from Tuesday to Wednesday.
As of 10pm PST last night, 314 backers from 31 different countries had come together to fund Speakeasy. We are thrilled to announce that the base game is now guaranteed! Thank you to everyone who came out to support us and make this happen--in only four days!
When Lux and I set out to create Speakeasy, we wanted to develop a game that appealed to us and filled a gap in the otome market. We wanted to play a game that was a little bit more mature, a little bit sexier (okay, maybe a lot sexier), and would transport us into a rich, lush world of excess. This incredible amount of support has shown us how many players out there are looking for the same and we can't wait to meet their expectations.
Now for a little game status update:
Lux is working on the finer details of the UI so that everything is buttoned up and pretty when the sprites are complete and we can program the character routes. Menu options change colors when you mouse over them, you can pick a custom name for the MC, and “Hide” now clears the whole screen so you’re able to see the art. She’s also working on the option to turn off R18 scenes and images. This SFW version will feature a Fade to Black style where scenes are just skipped over. If we’re able to reach the stretch goal for a rewritten SFW version, then the scenes will get replaced with brand new, more modest versions packed with romance.
There are lots of little things to do that will make the full game experience exponentially better but take quite a bit of time to get set perfectly in the beginning. While she’s laying the groundwork here, she’s also manning the social media helm and keeping Twitter, Tumblr, and Reddit updated on the goings-on. By the way, did you take the LI quiz yet?
Ocyriss is working on Silas's final sprite pose this week!
Aura is working on business things and file prep of the sprites. The demo featured a single sprite pose with up to five different expressions for our beautiful characters. Each character is receiving a brand new pose and variations on these two base poses, in addition to a whole list of new expressions. All the art files are being prepped for the sprites from Ocyriss to make sure they’re sized perfectly and have all the different pose and clothing options. Doing this work prior to getting them into the game engine means that Lux doesn’t have to worry about resizing any image files or running into issues where they aren’t consistent.

I'm sorry, I couldn't find the info on Kickstarter: When is the game supposed to be released please? :) I'd love to contribute to the Kickstarter, but not knowing when the game is supposed to be released is holding me back a bit... :/
We'll be going into beta testing at the beginning of October and are planning for a November or December 2023 release :)
