Hello There
Menu's...........................................So so many menu stuff.
I had to look at my previous devlog cause everything I do to the menu's starts to blurr together after week 3 of working on it. I knew the second I unbarked on this menu side quest of mine. Even big names of the rpg maker games stuff use normal menu's. Some are more custom then others yes but all are system. So knowing that making this special hand made menu that Im making would take me a bit. Tho i dont see it as a bad thing. Making this menu is changing a good amount of stuff to how the game will work. To items to how battles might work. Most to not all goes back to the menu. Reason why Im doing this so early
So first things first I was talking about seeing something called "Global Switches". I did some googling and it did exectly what I wanted to do. The problem I had last time was that the volume bar didnt line up with the volume after you started a new game. But I was looking for a wrong answer. Instead of finding a way to have the bar react on the volume which I couldnt get to work I made switched to do that. But those switches would go away once you started a new game. But with this lil plugin I can have it so some switches stay even after a new game has been started. So I tide all those switches to global data and now the bar works just fine
Now the options button had one more option in there. The General button. The place where standart options would be placed. Now I didnt really have any ideas for those options truely. My lil story games the general options doesnt even have a whole lot going on. But one button i did want to add was the start on fullscreen button. That was pretty easy to add howeer. fIf you press f4 in any rpg maker game it goes in fullscreen. I just needed to tie the event to that button which wasnt hard at all. This is how the general option menu looks btw
It looks a bit emtpy because this is just how it looks in the files.
Now finaly I can say that 2 of the 6 buttons on the main menu are done. The point is the other 4 buttons all give new challanges that I havent seen yet
Missions
This will be the easiest of the 4 left. Seeing that this button will be tied to quest and the main sort of questst you need to complete. This menu will show you what you need to do and what you have already done. Everything in this button is tied to the switches that start the questst. Meaning that I dont have to make new ones for this one. The only hard thing I need to see here is how I want this menu to look. After that it wouldnt be hard at all
Journal
This button will show the different kind of creatures that live in my universe. See it as a kind of pokedex if you will. It shows the all the creatures that Stray (the main character) meats on his journey. Same with the missions menu all these are linked to switches that will be gifted while your journey. But the same problem is here but more difficult. Seeing that the journal is something Stray has in person and it isnt just a menu thing I was wondering how I would want to make it look. So I want it to look like the rest of the menu or do I want this to look like a book? Who knows
Stats
Now this button is close to the control button in the options menu. Its just a static image that you can look at. The difficulty comes in that this menu shows Stray's stats. Stats that I havent looked at yet. I dont know what are good stats for Stray to have. Which before I can even begin with this menu button I need to think about that. Even after that I need to do something very hard. Seeing the way this menu is build I need to draw for every level that stray gets a new image. The max level once you get to the final chapter will be 80. MeaningI need to draw 80 different images with stats on them that I dont even know yet. So yea. A lot of fun this menu will have
Items
Now this menu will be hard. This menu wil mostly hold quest items that youd need to collect to complete questst. But seeing that I cant detect how many items you got of the same I cant just do that easily. So I made it so you dont have items you can use in battle that are once in use. I might still have items in battle but I will make it so there isnt just useble items ofr that set reason. But items that you can equip are a different story. I dont like it that you have pieces of armor that can only be equiped some times and stuff. I quite like it how games like hollow knight have there equip system work. Having lil things you can equip thta change the battles a lil or change your game plan. It doesnt matter which items they are but you can equip them. Only a limited amount mind you but that kind of system sounds so much funner and free er than the one rpg maker comes with. Ill have to see how I can make it look good of course but Ill make it worth most likely,
So a lil away from menu's I looked at the text box a bit. rpg maker has a lil animation for text boxes to come up and while that lil animation looks clean. I dont want it in my game. So I found a plugin that removes that animation.
Now In the background I have done some art trades with some lovely artist for 2 reasons. 1 I like to see my characters in different art styles like most do. 2 I want to see what people think of my characters without any information. I used my own design without saying much. Most I got back were great. Just one issue with most was that my character doesnt show off as a guy as much I see. All the trades drew me as a girl instead. It must be because of my long hair I recon. See for yourself
So that made me think. How can I make that information a bit more easy to find. Well there was a platform I wanted to use a long time ago called Unvale. A place that you can place your characters. i didnt want to use it at the start seeing that I didnt have a format that mached all my characters. But now I have drawn all of them in my chibi style. So Ill Try to put them all on Unvale somewhere next week. Ill make a post about it later. Most important tho I want to have it 0 spoiler. So thats gonna be fun heh
So thats all for this week. Mostly talked about stuff I want to do heh. But it was a important week. Every week working on the menu Ill be closer on beeing done with the menu and being able to work on the story once more heh. In any case. Have a good day furthermore and Goodbye
